@Peter123, you likely don't have one for comparison, but the Pono has been my go-to DAP, think it sounds great, especially balanced. Any experience with it, comparison with the Opus#1?

You my friend need a Walnut, no screen

How is that little oddball holding up anyways? I have a hard enough time keeping track of my music on a player with a screen…

Come on Mr. T, with all the good SQ hype I've been hearing on the Walnut I even had to go there for $27

To tell the truth I'm still pretty jazzed about this $50 rig

@peter123 I bet I am, you know I was hard on the Benjie at first but after reading some of you comments I decided to try some other iem's and sure enough it's a fine little player $1 less than the Walnut and it even has a track listing screen

Keep thinking bout grabbing one of those. The APTek version anyways, since its available on Amazon. It actually is worth the $40 CAD?

Just checked. I got 8.5" in my front yard overnight, she is still coming down

I must ask: did you make multiple measurements from multiple areas, then average them?...:joy:

Always good to see some competition for the ChAPs (Chinese Audio Players - what'd you think, could it catch on?)
Won't be on my shopping list (I do hate touchscreens), but seems like another quality device.

I wasn't much a fan of touchscreen DAPs either, but Opus #1 did it really well. And it sounds great, too!

Thanks, it's indeed a challenge to hang around here. Way too much good stuff.....
Thanks Tim! You're in for a treat :)

Only if you don't plan on using MULTI-BA IEM, lol. That said, of course I ordered a Walnut, myself :p

I borrowed Pono recent and didn't groove on it, to be honest. I'd take Opus #1 or Shanling M5 instead. Just my personal preference...

Nope, but my back yard had more like 12" where there was no wind to blow the snow around

LOL, won't argue with that. It's also a hit and miss with hybrids but the way it sounds with the AKG Sextett's is enough to be worth the $25 price tag to me.

Yeah the Benjie is very nice, especially for the price (I paid only $15 for mine on sale thouigh ;)).

Unfortunately you're right. I haven't even heard the Pono. Every time I go to the US (at least once a year for several years now) I try to find the deal at Fry's but it's never been a match. I'll keep following eBay listings for it but prices as to inflated so far. One day hopefully......

Soundwise with the right pairing it's very good (well above the S5 on sound only) imo but I could never live with a screenless device as my only DAP. Still a great performer if you like a smooth, warm and analog sound and as I said: the pairing with the Sextett's alone makes it worthwhile to me. Hi impedance earbuds does also works very well with it.

I think the Pono is great sounding, especially in balanced mode. My go to portable system (at home) right now is Pono/Trinity balanced cable/Westone W40, and I've been using it daily for a long time. I even got a back up at Fry's when it had a special $200 deal. The shape is not to everyone's liking, but works fine for me. I'm sure there is better out there, but, especially if you can catch the Fry's deal, I don't think at that price.

Fellow brvo ocean user. Any recommendations to DACs to pair it with?
You don't want to go crazy nuts with your DAC, considering the Ocean is a budget amp. I pair mine up with a Hifimediy DAC like the 9018 or 9023. Sounds really good!

Also, make sure to experiment with tubes. Some TUBE rolling will yield different results. I'm currently using a remanufactred Mullard that I got on eBay for thirty bucks. Makes the amp sound warmer and more expensive without ditching the details.

Hope this helps

Surely it must be painful to insert those Mullard's ;)
