Are Yurbudz better or worse than Earskinz??

Yurbudz are a rang of earbuds/IEMs,  Earskinz are covers that go over the Apple earpods - http://earskinz.com/

I haven't heard any of the Yurbudz range.

Titan 3 & 5

I hope you saved your VSD3 removable cables, cause guess which modified mmcx connector T3 and T5 are using?
wink.gif

Got my pairs of Titan 3 & 5 after work as well.  On a burn in now for 3-4 days, but out of the box I'm impressed.  T3 and T5 are identical in packaging, accessories, and design.  The only difference is a tuning.  T3 is slightly mid-forward while T5 is more v-shaped with an enhanced bass.  T3 has a nice bass extension as well, just closer to a neutral quantity.  T5's bass extends down to a deep sub-bass rumble and has a healthy dose of enhanced fast mid-bass punch, mids are slightly pushed back, treble has a nice extension with a sweet sparkle.  T3 has a quality bass, slightly forward mids, and the same treble extension.  Tuning of upper mids/treble in both is perfect!!!  No offending peaks, no sibilance, no harshness, definitely more ear-friendly in comparison to T1.  Also, no more sound leakage and perfect isolation.   Even so you only have a single air-vent pinhole, soundstage is still above average with a nice width/depth but not as much height.

With cables, I'm not too happy they used that proprietary mmcx connector like in original VSD3/3S, but at least there are some available replacements.  I have a feeling other DN and DK multi-driver models with removable cables will have the same connector.

All I have to say, DUNU is on a roll!!!

Speaking of deliveries...

DHL may be run by Satan himself in Canada, but here in the States he's pretty good to me

FLC 8S

I'm hoping you get yours soon, too Eric!

Titan 3 & 5

Just need the Fiio EX1 to get here, and I can get this party started!

EDIT: EX1 just cleared Customs

BTW, I'll be rolling out tours for all of these in North America soon.

Am mentally calculating all the ways that DH@*&$#%L can screw up this one. EX1 was sent 5-biz-day delivery, so that package had better be with you by week's end...

Are Yurbudz better or worse than Earskinz??

My wife uses Yurbudz skins on her Apple earbuds (the ones Tamal just got). They work pretty well. Nice thing about them is they don't fall out of your ears (which is their whole marketing message).

I haven't heard any of the Yurbudz range.

Used to run with Yurbuds until I got the ATH-CKX9. Yurbuds sound quality is pretty crap, with poor isolation. The poor isolation is kinda part of the design so runners can hear what's going on around them (at least that's the story I was fed). Biggest selling point when I got them was the not falling out bit.

CKX9 I bought when I was in Tokyo last year to run the marathon. Tried them in Yodobashi (big electronics chain, where you can try absolutely everything before you buy) and thought them a huge step up. They don't fall out either, and have very good sound quality and isolation for an athletic IEM.

Whazzup, Alex! Let's get the Titan 3 & 5 party started right!!!

Titan 3 in da house!!!

Titan 5 in da house!!!

Close up of the connector

Titan 3 are in my ears right now, and those of you who know me can probably guess that I'm listening to Bjork's Biophilia album via that Shanling M3 these beauties are resting on. Does it sound good? Why, yes my friends, it does!

Honestly, I was scared by the descriptions of the original Titans. All the talk of the very energetic top end made me envisions treble spikes piercing my eardrums. Then I got brave and signed up for the Fiio EX1 tour. I'll be getting those from Eric later week, btw - so be prepared for my three-way Titan-off!!!

Anyway to get back on track, I've yet to pop in T5 because T3 sounds so damn good with my beloved Bjork album. Absolutely no piercing upper mids or treble, and bass is much more present than I'd expected and in a good way. Can you tell I'm impressed?

Hopefully DUNU's use of the connectors will get us some good third party cable for these, so we can play even more!

Anyways, after I work my way through the reviews, I'm going to send these off on a North American review and impressions tour. I might start them off in Canada, so Eric and Tom can get an early shot at them. If anyone's interested, I'll post a tour thread later and you can always PM me.

Cheers,
Nikolaus

Really liked the EX1, especially when left-right reversed and worn over ear. With the detachable cable, now the over-ear thing can be done without having to switch channels. Nice! You using the Sony tips, or sticking with the wide-bore stocks?

It's funny, and I was going to comment on it but totally forgot. The box has pics of the Titans with the Heir-style wide bore tips, but the stock configuration for T3 & T5 have Med Hybrid-style tips. There's even an extra size Med Hybrid-style pair in the box. I'm guessing they want you to use the Med Hybrid-style tips, lol!

And despite these being the same connector as VSONIC used, they're so much easier to remove than the VSONIC connectors. I really had to work at the connectors on my VSD3 and could never get one of those bastards off. The Titan connectors pop off quite easily - but not so easily they'd pop out with just a tug on the cable. Nice!

EDIT: I think you're gonna like T3, Vince!

Today's other delivery was the FLC 8S. These a tune-able triple hybrid put out by Forrest Wei. From the literature packed with the IEM, it looks like FLC mostly deals in CIEM wit the FLC 8S as their universal.

They've got several nozzles/filters and ports/plugs to tune sub-bass, mid & upper bass, mids, and treble. There are 36 combinations. Talk about customization!

I popped them in for a quick listen, and they were quite energetic in the stock configuration - med sub, max bass, max mids, and med treble. They're on the pink noise rig now.

Here are some pics:

The box is crazy origami-like

First fold it up to reveal the IEM

Then fold it sideways to reveal the accessories - can you tell Forrest Wei likes bright blue

Here are the FLC 8S in their metal screw-top case. They're pretty small, lightweight, and comfy with 2-pin cables.

You get a bunch of tips, a couple adapters, and a cleaning tool

And here are all the tuning filters and plugs. They're quite tiny, and FLC actually provides a tweezers to manipulate them. This is going to be fun to tour, lol

I'm glad I got these now, as I plan to compare them with the tune-able Torque t096z I've got in right now. I'll also be adding the tune-able RHA T20 to the comparison when I get them along with the Fiio EX1 from Eric later this week.

After I'm done with them, I'll be sending them out on a US tour (Eric's handling the Canadian side with another pair this time). No butter-fingers need apply!!!

Fun times, my friends!

Along the line of sports, today is the time of year when I want to renounce my Canadian citizenship and move to a country where hockey has never been heard of (season hasn't even begun and I'm already sick of hearing about Conor McDavid).

Haha! I don't watch sports at all. If I did, it'd be college basketball and pro tennis. Just no time, though...

Man, you should take up beach volleyball - think of all that sunshine and fresh air!

I don't watch any North American sports really, other than playoff hockey, if the Flames make it. My problem with baseball and football is that they spend more time not playing than playing (I read an article recently that the average NHL game has only 12 minutes of actual "play.")  My sports distractions of choice are English "soccer" and World Cup rugby.

Have been watching a bit of the World Cup. Loved playing rugby back in the day. I'd always get killed because I'm a little guy, but it always was fun for some masochistic reason (kinda like the games of Aztec Death Raquetball we used to play - I swear I still have bruises from that.)
