Are there any hybrids in the sub $100 range?

Check out Astrotec's AX30 and AX35 same earphones with different cables. Had the AX35, but i wouldn't trust my own reviews. Fortunately, Joker has reviewed them in his multi-iem review. It cost me 119SGD which should be about 70-80 USD

Edit:
1X BA
1X Dynamic

Box includes 1 pair of foam tips but I still use their red core tips

This made me think about the Lear BD4.2. 2xdynamic, 2xmid ba, 2xhigh ba I believe. Even has a tuning knob! Wish I still lived in HK sometimes sigh...

Lear BD4.2 was the biggest disappointment I have heard this year (and many others) That hybrid is a to say lightly a heap of junk. I have 5 other members on our Australian tour who all agree some who even refrained from writing reviews on it.

It was so under performed on arrival we thought there must of been something wrong with it, we sent the unit back to Lear who gave us every excuse under the sun, tip dependant, source picky, made to run with their amp. It honestly sounded like a heap of 30 cent parts put together. Something like Altone or Dunu DN-1000 totally ate it for breakfast.

They made some 'adjustments' and it returned the still a heap of garbage. it wasn't only the sound either, the shells weren't symmetrical of each other, the right side was cutting out from a faulty socket. It was a nightmare.

We tend not to speak about it much, but I would be very cautious of that hybrid.

Oh really?? That sounds really shady. Sigh...It was one on my IEMs wishlist. Shells not even symmetrical? Wow...

TTPOD T2 just came out and it looks interesting. 2 BA and a large dynamic. It's quite the looker too in my opinion; that clear shell with the exposed circuit board looks pretty cool. Might think about one, but the straight jack and lack of a cable cinch are putting me off a little.

Looks nice! Any info on the pricing?

Yep - was interested at first, but then (for my tastes) quickly faded.

Twister 6's review said they had smooth treble with moderate extension.  He also thought KC06 was brighter (which rang my alarm bells - as to me the KC06 has OK treble extension, but a hole in the upper mids). A few other impressions coming in that they are a little bass light, generally flat, but again smooth highs and very forward mids.

For me anyway, that is a bad combo for some of my favourite artists.  If you get a pair, please post back and tell me what your thoughts are ......

Sure! Definitely will post impressions if I manage to lay my hands on a pair! :) I read his review too. Seems like he preferred the VSD3 over the T2. I do own a VSD3 too.. Wondering if it's still worth it to try out T2.

Everybody hears differently, and has different preferences.  So I guess only way to know for sure is to try them.

The good thing for me is that Twister and I have reviewed quite a bit of the same gear, so knowing my own impressions of something he's reviewed as well gives me a great line on how they're likely to sound to me. That way I can avoid buying something that there is a high chance I won't really like.

If you can find a reviewer or two who have very similar likes/dislikes to you, or at least consistent contrasting preferences, then it makes narrowing your choices a lot easier.
