I was never brave enough to open that baby up.... was in way too nice condition to be tinkering with it.
Looks awesome!
What pads are those? I hope they're giving you a bit extra bass.

Those are regular Brainwavz Velours.
It makes them brighter and IMO has very little change in the bass.

These old AKG drivers take EQ very well and the bass response is spectacular after it. They sound just like the Monitor but with more bass extension.

Foster/Fostex 40mm BioCellulose without Elastomer surround. The surround here is a basic Polymer, could be high thickness PET.

Alongside a Sony BioCellulose, vastly different Chemistry. The Mechanical properties are night and day, the Fostex is very, very stiff which is why it extends up top more than Sony BioCellulose. Also due to the surround the X-Max parameters are different as well.

Old and beaten, but working.
It actually needs a new home too.

Something's wrong with the left driver in my Fostex t20s, so I opened em up to see what's happening. Looks like there's no major problems, but the ground ring looks a bit dirty, which is not to my liking. Here's hoping a little deoxit takes off the small dots on the ring. Anywho, here's the driver. A thing of beauty.

9mm Sennheiser cx3.00 driver

Maybe I should've used a paperclip for scale... and get a better macro set-up... after cropping these pics are about half a megapixel :/
These are glued in, so you will damage the driver beyond use and repair if you try to take these out.
Although not sure why anyone would get one of these anyway, with so many shockingly good chinese IEMs around now.

Beyerdynamic DT440 (600Ohm)

Really makes me wonder how ANY sound can get past that pinholed driver face.
Pretty crazy stuff.
Imagine the amount of trials they would have had to do to find the right amount of flow.

Beyerdynamic DT440 (Redux)

damn, in my experience of repairing and modifying numerous Vintage headphones, this has to be the most fragile Transducer I have ever tackled. Just barely touched the contact pins and the VC lead detached. What a waste.

That is rough.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information

.

This photo is quite solemn, with the headphone in the distance.
