So there are no audible differences between versions correct? If so I'm quite happy at my revision and no need to try older revisions?

For example the Ibasso series had different sounds and may be something worth going backwards to explore sound tuning.

I have the 2.51 beta FW, which I assume is just 2.6.  After emailing fiio about my wonky scroll wheel and action button, they asked me to try the beta first.
 
It has improved the wheel, but it still jumps around a bit.  I have to decide if I can live with it now, or go through the rather elaborate return procedure of finding my original box, attaching a photo(???) of it and my device to include in my spreadsheet submission......
 
As for sound quality. the fw sounds... different to me.  Better a bit.  Or maybe it's just a placebo.

Definitely agree. Really enjoy this device, and don't plan on upgrading soon. I'm surprised the x7 only has 1 microsd slot, unless im reading that wrong. One of the deal sealers with the x5 was the dual slot storage.

A bit sad that they didn't see major improvements in navigation, such as scrolling by alphabet.
I think I'll stay with the X5 for a bit longer, then move on to a DAP with a touchscreen.

Agree they could have done something. I'm not complaining about the X5 interface but the Questyle QP1R can at least scroll by page when using the buttons vs the wheel. Was really hoping that would happen. Oh well. Long live the X5!!

Indeed a great product, I have to say its closing the evolution on a sour note (for me) given that the search function is just available (in beta form) on the X5ii. In my opinion this was the missing feature to take the X5 to another level. I guess hardware limitations play part on this?
