The Fiio X5 Thread
Jun 12, 2014 at 4:15 PM Post #10,381 of 19,652
I just tried a 128gb PNY flash drive.  Its not one of the turbo ones.  Its formatted to FAT 32 and using the OTG cable that came with the X5 I am still seeing the no music files message.

According to the FAQ on the Fiio web site:
Owing to some limitations of the controller board, the X5 currently only supports USB storage utilizing USB controllers from specific brands, specifically: Skymedi, ITE, Innostor, SiliconGo, Phison, and CBM.

If you are not sure of what brand of USB controller your USB driver utilizes, we could send you a PC utility for checking,or please directly download it(Identification tool for the main control chip of the U Flash Disk) from the "Download" section under the "Support" column on FiiO website.

Don't know if this helps at all, but it may explain a thing or two.

Hello guys. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to use two SD to micro SD adapters with two 256GB SD cards.
Is this going to be possible? I can buy two 256GB SD cards with adapters and make it a 512GB player.
Let me know if this works on Fiio X5. if not, I will buy two 128GB micro sd cards...

Also, what is the maximum capacity of OTG usb storage device Fiio X5 can accept? do you think OTG usb device will drain battery power faster?

Thanks!

I'm using a Kingston 128 GB DataTraveller G4 USB flash drive via OTG with my X5. Not sure if it affects battery life though.

have you ever tried to use 256GB USB drive?

Do you think it will work?
If all of set up I have mentioned can work together, it will be 512GB SD Cards + 256GB USB OTG. = 768GB?
I'm not sure if this can be possible. I'm also concerned about the battery life with this setup.

This has been done successfully with the X3 so I don't see why it wouldn't work on the X5.

I see that it's working with X3. But I'm not sure if it can accept two 256GB SD cards and 256GB USB flash drive at the same time.
I'm interested in making a 700GB audiophile player.
Also, do you think these adapter and SD cards will drain battery faster than normal micro SD cards?

I'm looking into this player to use with 1964ears V3 iem's. currently using a Cowon J3 with 64Gb card. Has anyone got experience  of the 1964 ears with the X5?

Thanks

I'm curious about this, as I've thought about a pair of V3 for my first CIEM, since 1964 Ears is local for me.

I haven't used OTG so I won't comment, but the SD and adapters should be driven just fine with minimum impact on battery vs micro SD cards.

sweet. that's 512GB already. I'd love to try that...
can anyone confirm that 256GB usb OTG on X5 would be possible?
PNY company sells 256GB usb flash drive for only 100 dollars. I'm interested in trying this as well.

A friend of mine has the PNY 256 gb turbo drive.  I will be able to try that in my X5 later on today.   I will report back with what I find out.

Thanks

Got my X5 today. Came with fw 2.0 and black silicone protector.

Compared it with my Ipod/PHA 1

Pha 1 has more power, and sounds warmer in general.

The X5 sounds a bit thin with my TDK BA200 compared with the Ipod/PHA 1

On the Grado SR325 the X5 sounds way better as the Ipod/PHA 1, but is a bit underpowered.

Also tried my Sony XBA 40 but the BA200 sounds better on anything.

I like the user interface, no bugs for me yet. I miss the warmth and power of the PHA 1.

Guess is to find better iems.

Found an "old" Sony XBA 10 and put it on the X5. Sounds as they are made for each other, this simple iem sounds better as the BA200 and XBA 40 together. (or they need te be cleaned or something)

Beautiful bass, enough power from the X5. Ok, highs could be a bit brighter, but otherwise, wow.
