The Fiio X5 Thread

Glad my attempt at humor was a success...so.... am I to understand you're a skinny runt like I am? I'm still that way, after 68 years on Earth (this time around, mind you) and my vegan ways help me stay very fit, too! Ah, you went to the LA meet, was it this just last one that happened? I wanted to go, but even though I am pretty close to LA (San Diego), I couldn't make it. Is that the HTC phone you mean by M8? Top tier for AK would be the 240. Even that? Did you get a chance to hear that one?
So, even a McIntosh, huh? That's pretty good. I was into tubes back in my Boston days, owning Jadis tube Monoblocks and premamp with Duntech Marquises and a Basis turntable, very expensive stuff from my cab driving days, but now I am very happy with portable magnificence, actually happier. Well, I am in general a much happier person tha n I was then. My favorite album at that time though was a budget label Turnabout recording, believe it or not, for the most air, best performance, that being with Donald Johanos and the Dallas Symphony!!! of all things.Playing Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances. It actually made this man, me.... cry, yes. That's what classical music can do to you, right, skinny? But the engineering of the recording was so .... THERE!  I wonder what that particular recording would sound like as a cd rather than vinyl on an X5, lol!

I'm so small that I need American size 28 pants tailored down to fit me--that's why I'm stuck with overpriced, European designed apparel :frowning2:

By M8, I meant CEntrance M8, a fairly new transportable DAC/AMP with MFI certification. I am, unfortunately, saddled with an iPhone 5 until September--the new HTC One does look to be a killer phone!

Though I seriously considered purchasing an AK240 at the $500 off meet price before I actually listened to it, such thoughts evaporated as soon as I was able to sneak an X5 over for comparison (well, I didn't need to sneak it from TekFX, but I did need to make sure that the AK rep didn't see me comparing the two). With the HD800, it was a complete toss-up. Neither had enough juice to make it sing, and I couldn't tell apart detail levels or soundstage. Both did have the muscle to push around my T70, but...uh...due to...let's say...uh..."meet conditions," I couldn't give either player a plus in any way. It was only when I used Noble Audio's flagship universal that I was able to hear the AK240's barely deeper soundstage.

Like any other human who indulges his depression with...depressing music, I always find myself crying, or, at the very least, tearing by the end of the fifth movement (Adagio) of Mahler's symphony #5.

I so much enjoy my sojourns on Head-Fi. I would love to contribute more to discussions of equipment here, and certainly for the X5 which I hope to buy around June (hope there will be some available by then, that I'm not too late and have to wait awhile b/c the ones available were all taken).
Every so often I can post, but I do feel bad that I can't find anything I can contribute on a regular basis. I'm not a technical-minded person but rather... a cultured one, so I wonder how much discussions of my experience with classical music on the X5 would go on this and associated threads, since most of you seem to be "rockheads," lol.
I'd just like to say though, that Head-Fi is one of the most enjoyable sites for me on the internet for it seems to me that it is teeming with good people and if I have to associate with "junkies," then the kind of junkies interested in good music (yes, rock music and such included) and equipment is a good sort to associate with, a healthy sort to associate with.

I am also primarily a classical music fan, although I do listen to a fair bit of metal and EDM as well.   I generally find that for the most part, the musical tastes are not SO relevant, given that this is primarily a gear-related forum.

Sometimes, there are issues-  I think classical music fans appreciate the importance of more detailed ID3 tagging (orchestra, conductor, composer, soloist, year of performance, etc) and seamless gapless playback, but that gets lost for the vast majority of users here.   Also, quality of the audio vs that of the music is more relevant for us - Toscanini's stirring rendition of Beethoven's 9th on mono vs Abbado's tedious version in audiophile quality as one example,  accuracy of timbre as another (what is an accurate sound response for techno?).

But for the most part, all is good.

Whether they have the resource is a separate matter. But I'm sure James like to hear user feedback to improve his products, that is probably why he pops up Headfi. Although a user's suggestion may not work for others, but I think at least we should give some feedback which we genuinely think worth considering, and let him decide what should be improved based on his collective info.

yes, just be noted that our resource and ability is limited so we can't adopt each suggestion, sometimes people have different suggestion too .

Has anyone contacted MP4Nation to see when their pre-orders would be coming in? I thought I had read they would be one of the first retailers to receive them but I still haven't seen or heard anything from them yet even though it showed in stock date of 3/29 when I ordered. Hope to hear something soon! The wait is killing me (softly)....

here is the detail of the shipment , and I don't know all the detail why some agents have not get their shipment , but basiclly two reason,

1, They have not make the payment yet.  2, not enough for all agents so they have not wait couple days.

And our staff try to ship to all over the world but not try to delivery the whole order. for example, one agents may order 1000 pcs, but we will ship 100pcs to them first .

Does mp4nation.net stock from Carve Link Company or directly from FiiO?

Will the X5 support exFAT at some point, by the way?

Any idea when they'll be available in Vietnam? Not a huge market here, but we're practically neighbors.

For same price they give 0 goodies at all. Get from song bros is 2 goodies leh...... A bit injustice lah, then again if we knew then we definitely would have bought it from song bros.... and some more red fusion one order ship out earlier than E1, so we getting our stuff later than ppl who order from song bros

Oh dear yeah that i agree but i didnt get it from E1 cause the guy when i asked about the first batch of preorders snapped at me and rudely told me "you missed it too bad" so that kinda ticked me off. But yeah song bros with the 2 goodies waaa sounds like a damn good deal haha
