  wasn't the X3 already comparable to the AK100? or am i mistaken?

IIRC, the parts are not quite on par with the AK100, in terms of quantifiable performance metrics.  Reviews seem to echo this truth, as many have said that the X3 doesn't have the resolution of the AK100 and that listeners can hear it.  Whether this makes the AK100 worth the extra money is another matter.  I for one, expect the X5 to provide equal or better sonic performance than the AK100 and similarly priced players, but with a much lower price.  The ~$400 price tag will make it the perfect compromise.
