when we start the development of x5, we decided to make a more transparent SQ with very little warm for the headphone out in X5. now sure what you guys feel about whether the HO of X5,

but it is quite interesting that I think most Chinese user will more like warm sound.  so , this will become a big problem to us when we develop X7 in the future.

how about creating a new x5 call X5DIY? can we change the SQ to be warm or cold... :)

the best way is use the line out of X5 and use an extra headphone amp , which is what LO should be help people. in China, 25% percent of X5's user use X5+E12 combo.

James, my impression is that most of the headfiers prefer completely neutral sound. I liked tour unit of X5 a lot, but if this little darkness would be completely removed from it then it would be almost ideal for me in terms of SQ.

I've been dreaming of an op amp rollable DAP ever since my first high SQ dap (the Teclast T51) and of course the iBasso P3+ amp that introduced me to op amp rolling. I guess we already have the HM901 with its rollable amp cards, but dat enclosure, dat ui...

is it possible to make it transparent and neutral, not warm at all, with a bass boost switch for those who like it to be warm, then u can cater for both market? Something similar to E12 bass boost?

^ this is a good idea ^

Not sure it can be done though as the e12 bass boost is hardware based.

You can already do whatever you like in terms of warmth/colour/bottom end with the EQ.
[Once they make it work for HD files, that is.]

up, not exactly, my experience with EQ is that although you may alter the sound to some extent there is always something missing and there is lack of coherency of the sound (at least for me).

+1

Wow. I wonder why we're hearing such different things!?

I definitely find the E12DIY to be an upgrade, but there's no hiss or anything nasty - just slightly less separation and clarity in the soundstage.

I think you might have misread my post.
The hiss was there WITHOUT the E12DIY.

I hope it's nothing serious?

I have a question, to which i've had no answer so far, despite having asked it twice before:

When the X3 came out, a tool was released so you could view the firmware on the computer, called "liteGUI".
Will you release a new version of this tool for the X5, and new X3 firmware?

We've started a thread about modding the theme ( http://www.head-fi.org/t/717947/fiio-x5-custom-modded-firmwares ) , and it would help us a lot.

Thanks,

There is literally nothing that you can't do with that EQ that would be done by having a 'warm' or 'bass' option. Nothing. You're just asking them to preadjust the EQ for you (and they have provided several presets as well as making it customisable).

Got my X5 yesterday and have only just started playing about with it with my M100 and W4R. Like other some other users, I'm also finding the sound signature a bit too warm for my liking. I've tweaked the EQ at the low end slightly, but still doesn't sound quite right to me.

I'm considering maybe the DX90 would have been a better option for me. Don't get me wrong, I like bass and listen to a lot of electronic music, but I just prefer things to be more natural sounding.

what are the chances of Fiio modifying the EQ in a future FW update? slim to none?
