Will this player display artist album song and cover art for Apple Lossless and ACC? this is the crucial factor for me.

Btw, the more I see peoples need, more I am thinking I am a quite basic customer.

All I need is a dap, sounds high end, true gapless in folder view/playback mode. I couldn't care for the rest. As for the user experience, over 10 hours of battery life is welcome as well smooth and fast UI responses, easy to use and operate. The capacity is also important but I believe X5 covered it quite nicely (hoping that 128 gb µ sd will also work in those slots). Worth mention, I always prefer physical controls than disgusting touch screen.

No, wifi or anything related to it (last fm things and all), no album art, no cover flow, no tag reading, no radio, no clock.. I don't need any of these and probably many more features that I can't remember/name right now but people often call them a deal breaker.

I think I am really quite a basic customer/listener.

I have a feeling like if I knew Mython in real life, we would be great friends, it happened 100 times before and it still keeps on happening, we share the same opinions on pretty much every subject.

Also, as a side note, that guy keeps track of everything, he finds posts from months ago and gives link to them and when you have a question or something, he is extremely helpful and always most informative.

Why I am saying these things, I don't know, there are probably many reasons. One of them is, it will be great to have the same dap with him and share our experiences as well as help each other and other users.

  Hello, James -

Will the X5 feature true gapless playback? It's a crucial feature for me; I listen to a great deal of western classical and other types of music for which there are often no gaps between tracks.

Thanks,
Brian

sure, I think X3 already meet the requirement of our user. . . .

Is that a "Yes"?

I ask because many DAPs supposedly offer gapless playback, yet it's either poorly implemented or non-existent. I haven't been following the X3, but I do recall that that gapless playback wasn't working when the X3 was first released internationally. Apparently it continues to be a major problem with Chinese DAPs, including those of your primary competitor, iBasso.

Thanks,
Brian

OMG why it's so huge!? I'm not gonna buy it with such a dimensions FOR SURE, even if it sounds like an angel!

Cheers, AmberOzL. The way I look at it is that we're all here as a part of our enjoyment of this pasttime, and we all enjoy bouncing-around various opinions and ideas concerning the subject. It's enjoyable to be sociable amongst like-minded people. Sometimes I ruffle people's feathers a bit (most Head-fiers will find themselves doing that, at some point, if they contribute here for long enough), but there's no harm done, at the end of the day, and we're all basically decent people, enthusiastic about our little bit of escapism from the challenges of life!

Maybe if I'm ever in Belgium, I'll drop you a PM and share a beer, like the Japanese Head-fiers seem to do, but the thing is, I can't see myself ever actually being in Belgium, since I'm not much of a traveler.

Back to the X5 dimensions, I feel, as nihontoman does, that provided it's only 15mm thick, the width and length doesn't pose too much of a problem, but I would add a caveat that weight is a factor for me, as I don't want a lead brick in my pocket, even if it's a low-profile lead brick! LOL  I hope this thing doesn't tip the scales at more than 300 gms (and ideally less), but I respect the fact that that relatively large battery pack isn't going to be featherweight.

James, it's great that you guys are using a high quality IPS screen, but why not make use of the whole 400 X 360 pixels?
I was thinking of something like this for the now playing screen:
For the rest of the GUI, it should just be an issue of spreading the objects out.
Is this possible?
EDIT: netvibes and kova4a were quick to point out that I was wrong--the UI does fill the whole screen.

They are using the whole 400x360 screen on that image, it isn't a square (although it might look like it at first glance).

On that image the screen is represented by about 228x205 pixels (which is a 1.112 ratio) and it is about the same ratio than 400x360 (which is 1.111).

If you resize the original 400x360 image to 228x205 you will see it fits perfectly.

You got it wrong. That is the whole screen utilized. The black borders around are not the actual screen. As it has been said it was already pretty hard to even find an IPS screen of this size.

Is that really the most crucial factor for you when choosing an audiophile DAP?

Wow.

Okay wow well it's not really the most important sorry, I already know about the great DAC/amp and the storage and build are lovely driving the RE-262 and possibly the HD 650 decently are great. I was going to get the X3 but the firmware causes some hassle and while i am willing to give up flawless performance i still want something more useable the the X3. That's what the X5 is supossed to be. I dont want to have to convert every song i have to MP3 and reburn all of my lossless so isn't that important too? so i guess for this particular DAP i want the Tags read because the X3 can't to what i know. For 200$ extra it should better read those tags and move music from computer to player and be well- organized. i'm not asking for wi-fi or anything fancy, just some info about my files. Nothing too much extra to ask for when i'd be paying double the X3's price.

It probably will, since I think the X3 does.

If it doesn't though, you can use a program like XLD (assuming you are a mac user) to convert your whole library in to FLAC and MP3. It's very easy to do :)

Thanks for the help!!
