The Fiio X3 Thread.

USB OTG support ould be a great thing. It is even better, since it is achievable through only a software update. I really cannot understand people saying that this functon is useless.

I am one of those people who would carry around 2TB of music if possible. In fact, the large capacity was the only reason I had(rip) an IPod Classic or Video.

I do not care about library update for two reasons.

1) It is extremely difficult to program such a feature for so many different file-types. Alone FLAC has a few versions of tagging.

2) Updating libraries is slow. I do not need that feature, but I would never say here to James, that he should stop offering it, just like some members here do with the OTG feature. To make it short. I browse by folders.

If it is possible for James to implement the possibility to use an external hdd and dac via USB, I hope he will do it.

Talking is fine  - but the point of communication is so that we can understand each other idea and position. Right now it is much less of a two way communication but James letting us know some possibility and many start fighting over each others and worst, demanding a player to turn into what it isn't meant to be. That's not helpful, to FiiO or to us. It is either James stop throwing us bone and pieces, or asking everyone to be reasonable - I am not sure the later is easier.

p/s: I know what I have said is unpopular, but someone has to say it.

ClieOS,

One of the things that makes Fiio excel is James' communication, transparency and willingness to consider users' input. Please don't ask him to stop his communication with us.

I don't think anyone here can "demand" Fiio or James to do XYZ. James is the CEO of Fiio and he makes the final decision.

X3 is meant to be a DAP that sells well and pleases majority of its target market. If USB OTG can open up new market, considering it is not a stupid idea.

If James thinks the idea of USB OTG is too crazy, I will happily move on. I was merely providing information about new utilities, not demanding XYZ features. I am sorry, if you or others think otherwise. I do apologize for arguing with "serious7" for so long, but I just did not like that he called my idea "stupid" and "useless".

I would rather read James' communication as I appreciate the fact that they are making things happen (may not exactly what I need). We just need to ask ourselves if their product vision is something you need. If not, move on. I experience the same for AK products and their belief of not needing a "line out " in their products. I would not go n purchase a AK100/120 then grill the iriver representative to release a line out adapter. I know that iriver is more than capable to release one if they feel the need to.

Even after 100 hrs burn in I don't like the sound signature of X3. May be due to my IEM but not sure

I'm planning to sell my X3. If anyone is interested please let me know. I'm from India (would prefer to send it within India to avoid shipping problem)

The problem is, with the current implementation of gapless playback, the X3 needs the library. It cannot just build a dynamic playlist when you browse folders, like Rockbox seems to do.
Even if some future firmware won't need library for gapless, there's still a lot of people who browse by artists or categories. I prefer folders but it would be kinda funny it OTG storage worked only for the likes of me.

Hi James,
If OTG will be implemented, would be possible playing the HiRes formats (e.g. 24/96, 24/192) via USB without downsampling?

You are right. Itunes for example even renames the files to achieve that gapless playback. It is not important to me. Especially I would not expect it from a OTG connection. However I do understand why gapless playback is important to other people.

It's just that inconsistency in the UE would be very unpopular. If gapless and categories work and OTG storage works then gapless and categories should work with OTG storage. Otherwise there'll be a lot of complaints and frustration and gnashing of teeth.
That's why Apple products are so satisfying BTW. They decide on a limited set of features they want to implement and then polish them till they shine. So unless you know you need something they decided to omit, you're very pleased with the fluidity and predictability and neatness of everything.

Yep. James always says how difficult it is to bring all the features together and maintain many different file-types.

One must always make a tradoff. Eitherway you have one perfect system, itunes like, where problems are not very common. Or, you have a free system and can drag and drop files. That is why I would never complain about such bugs.

Hi all,
I bought an X3 a couple of weeks ago and was very happy with it until one side went white noise then cut out. I was using it for playback at a festival (Im a live engineer) at the time and was on stage so that was embarrassing enough..
However later on I moved it and found it was incredibly hot. As in very nearly too hot to touch. I've trawled about and found some mention of it getting a bit hot, but not this hot.
Fiio haven't confirmed that they've never heard of this happening before either (I've asked about this as I intend to buy another); but I thought I'd ask here.
Thanks for any replies,
GC

there are some main issues people complained about

1, some sound track are missing cause by the limit of the total quantity of the folders at the same level .  this already fixed in the new  firmware which should be release soon.

2, the limit of gapless playback, will be fixed in the next version after 45 days.

3, the disk format of TF card , the exFAT or NTFS may cause some bugs, which should be fixed by added a new feature so people can format the TF card in X3 to make sure the format is correct.

this feature should be added in next version.

4, there are some small distortion in the one channel when play ogg music , still working in this but can't confirm when so far.

And as I known, there are not any other DAP which can compete with us in every detail. and please share with me if there are. also remember I am here and listening to what people need and what people complained about.

sure we will , and we are working in the stability of these new features.  and we have asked our fans test the NOKIA N8, it took about 5 seconds to update 10 sound tracks, quite fast and we will try to increase the update speed in X3 too.
