I'm quite excited by the coming released of the X3 and hope to purchase one when it becomes available.  I don't expect it to match the DAP benchmark set by the DX100 for me.  If anything, I'm quite found of the fact that it will act as a really good transport for my hirez/lossless files without the need of computer.

Thanks for the response and info. My understanding was the the x3 had the same amp section as the e17. It seems misunderstood. I ask because I needed the high setting on the e17 for my full sized HP's. I'm not sure medium would be enough.

Same here. That might be the final nail in the coffin for me. Sure I could hook up another amp, but an all-in-one solution at $200 is just so tempting. Guess I'll wait and see what the X5 has to offer.

Their website is pretty barren. But their Amazon counterpart is filled with glowing reviews and no problems.

I also had no problems with them. They bundled stuff and offered good bundle deals and provided quick shipping. They shipped with a cheaper usps pckg so tracking wasnt up to speed but that wasnt their fault.

I wished that Fiio made the X3 have a larger footprint, but thinner. That way, it will be more portable.

Let's be grateful that Fiio James will give us the best DAP for the money. Is anything better and cheaper out there? No!

Not sure I agree with you and anyway it's too late for wishes regarding hardware

Maybe for the X5? Or is that out as well already? The X3 seems like the benchmark for what $200 can buy though. It may even be better than the AK100 because of the 22 ohm impedance.

No, the X5 is expected towards the end of the year. It's dimensions so far are cited as:
 

3. X5 is wider than X3 by 1 cm (about same width as iPod Classic). X5 is thinner than X3 and of about the same length of X3.

looks like some possible options of integrating in a hi-fi set-up which will be a boon... the X3 does appeal forsure & the X5 could be a game changer if FiiO & gets it right.

I don't  have good luck ordering from Hong Kong. The shipping can get a bit sketchy and the wait time even longer. I'll hold out for a US distribution for now.
