I reaally hope that you can search your music list by means of selecting the first letter of a song, artist, album, etc. And no, I don't mean the entire list being listed alphabetically as most players do that by default. I mean giving us the means to select a specified letter of the alphabet and getting results of songs, artists and albums that begin with that letter. Please tell me this feature is in there!

Judging from the previous pages of post I'm guessing there's no point in hooking up the x3 to a e17 :[
I just purchased an e17 not too long ago and was hoping to pair it up with the x3.
Considering the x3 has a better SQ than the e17 would it detract from the performance? Sorry i'm somewhat new to the audiophile world.

“A chain is as weak as it's weakest link”

hooking it up to the E17 /might/ decrease the audio quality, it seems indeed unnecessary to hook these up together.

Sorry for your wallet...

The OPamp and DAC in the X3 is the same as in the E17.

This of course doesn't mean exactly the same as other factors also influence sound. But having two major parts as the same with both comming from the same company will usually mean a similar sound

Using an E17 with x3 in my opinion is not needed or anything,

Wait that chip is supposed to support ALL sample rates upto 24/192 so why cant my e17 play 24/88 or 24/176 files.

Chip support doesn't mean anything if the input doesn't support it.

USB supports 24/96 whilst S/PDIF on this supports 192/24

Howevever then we have software problems and audio file problems where the HD res files may have some 'problems' (I've had a few) and then there is the software playback and signal sending getting messed up or that having problems too.

Actually it is because the chip does not support it. But it is not the DAC chip we are talking here - it is the USB receiver chip. WM8740 can not communicate via USB directly, so it relies on Tenor TE7022 to do the talking and send it the audio data. TE7022 on the other hand will do 16bit and 24bit, but only limited to 8/16/32/44.1/48/96kHz and nothing else.

S/PDIF-in doesn't have that limitation because it is handled by a dedicated S/PDIF chip that supports any sampling rate up to 192kHz. Of course, that is in theory. To fully utilize all the sampling rate, you still need to implement the clock for it.

I decide that I am just going to wait until the X5 releases to make my purchase. It's going to be one expensive holiday season for me (PS4, X5)

If Head-fi has taught me anything, that is - by the time X5 comes out, you will probably be saying the same thing about X10 or X15...

Well, I do have to draw the limit somewhere. I would be happy with the X3 but I need the driving power of the X5. I don't really have an over expensive taste in headphones/IEMs, nor sources/amplifiers. I'm just missing a portable DAP and the X5 fits those needs.
