The Fiio X3 Thread.

Bought an X3 today and I'm currently ripping my CDs to FLAC.

Before I clean up the tags, I have a question about artwork.

Is it ok to add artwork that's 600x600 or higher?  Will that high a resolution slow down the X3 when navigating through songs or cause any issues?

600x600 is pointless on the X3, but I'd like to future-proof somewhat so when I get another device down the road (ie. music storage player, etc) with a higher resolution display - it'll look decent.
I really don't want to re-rip my CDs again just to get higher resolution artwork.

So are there any detriments to using 600x600 (other than the slight increase in FLAC file size)?

I always used this with my headphones until lately I've been using it in my truck and holy crap does it sound good in there. I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore except for the morning shows which I can't miss no matter what.

Got me some of that Roy Hargrove "Ear Food". Very Nice, I picked up the album.

Check out AHA! Quintet, Freespace. Probably can preview it on Amazon.

I use 600 x 600 images embedded on all my files and both the X3 and X5 are fine with that. It used to be 1100 x1100 and above caused issues but rumor has it that is no longer true.

I'm contemplating buying a Fiio X3 to replace my iPod Touch 5G as my portable audio player because I really don't like the soundstage and DAC of the iPod. Does the SQ, sound stage drastically improve from the iPod to the X3? I currently use a Dragonfly v1.2 on my laptop and I really enjoy the SQ and soundstage of it and I was hoping the Fiio X3 would sound similar to that

The earlier limit was actually 1024x1024 pixels which got raised for .jpg files in FW 3.0. But there are still issues with cover art support. I summarized them in a comment for bug #11 (limited support for cover art):

1) JPEG Files with 4-letter filename suffix (.jpeg) are still not supported as external album art files!

2) One external cover art file for a whole album, i.e. folder (like cover.jpg, folder.jpg, etc.) is still not supported!

3) The resolution limit of 1024x1024 pixels has been expanded (nice!) – but only for JPEG files! PNG (and BMP) files in higher resolutions aren't supported (but this is not really a problem in my opinion).

4) Album art files in PNG format of big filesize make the device freeze, see bug #174 for more info!

and last but not least big cover art files slow down track skipping considerably! see bug #20
