Honey, I've been thinking, and I love you very much.  How about I give you the X5 so you can truly enjoy your music, and I'll take the X3.  I love the way the X5 sounds, and I want to share that with you, I hope you love it too.

ha ha ha ha ha. It's a risk, which may result in some "couch time"

Ok, 2.19b sounds as good as 2.14b, so best SQ ever + improved stability = way to go. Now I'm happy

3.0 sounds too bad to be used by these ears. It's a truly sissapointement its SQ (IMHO, of course). Hope FiiO improves this in a future FW update. I'm patient and am happy, really happy with 2.19b till there (if ever...). If they don't, 2.19b gives me 90% of the SQ of X5, its stable for the way I use it, so I'm perfectly fine with the beta.

The current X3 firmware core is pretty much the same as X5, minus the difference in UI and a few of the features (i.e. EQ).

Personally I still find X5 to be a superior player without a doubt.

This is good to know

  +1
I really hope they do

I hope they further tweak the sound so that the X5 is more comparable to the DX90 than it currently is. Reading impressions it seems the X5 sounds a tad bit harsher than the DX90, I hope Fiio gives this some attention!

Q: Where can I DL a copy of FW2.19b? It seems the beta testers are not allowed to share, but I'd like to try this out, if SQ is different from FW3.0.

Beware of anybody who tells you what you are hearing - it's much like a jedi mind trick ("...these are not the droids we are after...') and can implant expectation bias into those who are susceptible to the power of suggestion. Trust your own ear/brain interface.

I skipped the whole 2.14b thang, but I'm listening to my first song with 3.0. I set the bass at 3 and that is way to much so I rolled it back. Then set it back to 3 which is way too much so I set it back to 1. It's at 3 right now. Fun. So far I think FW 3.0 is one louder.

Um, I'm just guessing here, but do you like the bass at 3?

I don't know yet. I see 4 is also an option. Must resist 4.
I am listening with B&W P5's at the moment. They are somewhat tubby on their own, but I can't resist the thunder.
(Jimmy Page and Robert Plant - No Quarter - Four Sticks, yow!)

I imagine you're right ClieOS, but cost vs performance, I'd be willing to believe the X3 is currently the better value.  Although, I wish the X3 had the same type of harness for the E12 the X5 does.

You can always ask FiiO to investigate the possibility. For what I know, X3 still has a fairly strong sale even after X5 release, and they already sold more X3 than X5, so there is the incentive for them to create accessories for it.

Anyone else try to play aiff files? I was listening to them fine on FW2.1 and now they won't play on FW3.0 at all and freeze my X3 - upon restart I have to reset all my settings, it goes back to factory install…weird?
I also see a bunch of goop on my card like .trashes and .temporayitems files...
when I look at the folders with AIFF files on them each song is repeated twice once with a dot prefix.
Sux - as I had a whack of albums on my card in AIFF.
