Sorry that you are feeling like that toward a player you made hopes on it ... But i am telling you there is no magic solutions like the player burning in or so .. Those solid state devices may take a hour or two to fully settle down.. The rest is your brain burning in ... So as i suggested to you before.. If you can't tolerate the sound of that player .. Sell it and invest in x5 or ibasso dx50 ( known for its neutrality) or simply and that what i would do if i where you .. Invest in a quality amp or (dac/ amp ) and stick them with your mobile phone..you will get a better results indeed

Spardao; the beauty of capitalism is that you can purchase what pleases you. I would mention that the latest firmware has an equalizer. But my guess is that you just do not like the sound of this unit.

Personally I would be upset if FIIO messed with this sound signature. It is exactly what I want. Smooth and natural to my ears. My guess is that you want something else.

The USB DAC functionality can be used on a sony walkman A17? f.e connect the digital line out of the walkman and plug an usb adaptor to the fiio to use it as an amp/DAC?

Why would you like to do that?

I think sony walkman alone would do all what you mentioned very good without missing with the x3 ... But as an answer to your question .. I saw guy here posted that he succeeded to make x3 as a dac for his android phone or may be iphone ( can't remember well) .. With assistance of an external battery and usb hub! ( as the x3 when playing as a dac ,is not a self powered dac

I want to do it because many (if not all) fiio's portable headphones Amp/DAC's are fed via 3.5mm input (analogue), and this walkman now supports digital OUT too, and the fiio x3 supports digital IN when fed to a windows PC.

To be able to power my MDR-1R's as i have read those are not driven well by the walkman

Good luck ,dude .. But i think that you won't need an amp to drive these headphones from walkman but how knows ! If you need an amp the walkman sure deserves better amp than the amp section that implemented in the x3

You seemed fairly confused to me. 192 GB iPod? That never happened. You mention that a device at this price should out-perform anything else? It's a $129 dollar device. I paid $230 for my last 160 GB iPod. My X3 slays my iPod. It didn't out of the box, but after 20 hours of break-in it did. I should mention that I use Shure SE 535's with mine and it sounds swell. Hopefully you are using at least 128k mp3's. (I run only FLAC)

Anyway.

You are the confused one, i also play only FLAC, you are soooo confused dude , i said FINALLY A DEVICE THAT CAN MATCH IPOD CLASSIC STORAGE AND EVEN EXCEEDS BY 32GIG, the sony walkman A17 is 84GB + 128GB microSD =  192GB

and here's the proof i hear only flac, downloading from presto classical, the 28th volume of CPE bach solo keyboard music series (still running)

Yes i know i also had an ipod classic 160GB (sounded like bullschiit ), then got the fiio x3 and it died (waiting for the replacement to arrive), but i will buy a sony walkmna A17 just because it has 64GB, up to 128GB microSD support and of course juts because it plays FLAC up to 192Khz/24-bits
