There is a "Hold" switch on the side of the X3. Is it on or off ?

It only locks the screen like all other hold buttons do

now i feel stupid about my reply. the funny thing about x3 is, you can still turn on the player when it's "locked". But it will turn itself off if it's still locked. SO STUPID

I hope the next Firmware releases fix that. It shouldn't turn on at all.
 
Also I'd love for them to implement switch on after hold button is released and switch off if the hold button is on, I have this feature on my old Sony Walkman and it makes things so much easier and more user friendly. Of course it shouldn't turn off if there's playback.

The only weird behaviour I've seen from my X3 so far is that when playing back a multi-channel DVD audio rip it played v    e    r    y         s    l    o    w    l    y. But I just converted it to two channel with Foobar and problem was solved.

Clearly you're an iPod fanatic and probably will never appreciate any other DAPs as they are.

iPod is an iPod because it just does things like any other Apple product. Clearly you are used to it and deviating from that means you're in a new territory, you just have to accept that it isn't an iPod and will never be.

The X3 for a lot of people is the best budget DAP that's out right now. Speaking personally, it hasn't frozen or gone wrong for me once since I've owned it.

 

I actually enyoy X3 a lot, because it has exellent sound quality, but newest classic is as awesome as X3 on sound.
And i'm not in new territory - i have had 10+ daps in last 3 years, and only few were ipods. Old wolfson ipods and first cirrus ipods are nowhere near X3 or newest Classic and Touch.
And i think why many says that X3 is much better than ipod
1) They use headphones which are hard to drive(we all know that x3 is very powerfull) i only use IEM, so it isnt problem with ipod.
2) Every person has its own criteria, how he rates SQ. X3 has warmer and bassier sound than Classic. Does it makes its SQ better? For me it is only different, not better. My main criteria is how clear(detail, transparency) sounds DAP. I dont care which has beefier low end and so on. and in this criteria, in my opinion, its tie.
BTW. I'm using Audio Technica CK100Pro, IM50.

The amount of calculating and decoding your player has to do is 250% more than normally, possibly even more.

I didn't even know it could play multi channel tracks.

I kinda assumed it did, but considering all of its outputs are 2-channel, that wouldn't make much sense, I guess! There wouldn't be any benefit of multi-channel over stereo in this case, right?

I wish that instead of quadrophonic or surround sound, more bands and live recorders would finally pick up on binaural recording techniques. That way you only need stereo headphones.

Haha thank you couldn't find a pic of RD with headphones befitting her, so i found a pic and made her some PS-1000's. (These things make your music 20% better, scientifically proven)

Well, you certainly took that well ibizai9100. Commendations on a reasoned reply. It amazes me that people don't perceive the irony of their rants.
Its funny, because most audiophiles don't get their hearing tested. Because I have worked with so much audio, I do and I know I have a drop at around 4khz at both ears, I know how many db that is, and I measure stuff all the time, to make sure I don't over compensate.
Long and short of it is that if I notched for that discrepancy, then gave you the headphones you might say..."urgh". But it sounds great to me and vice versa. Don't get me started on THD perception.
Your ears are the final judge of any sound or quality. Not someone else's.

Maybe some others can help you with your x3 issues?

Found a "fioo" Tuff-Luv case on Ebay , hopefully I get it for roughly £11 (that is including shipping), otherwise I'll have to outright buy it which would set me back roughly £14 or £15, such astounding costs .
