They rarely dip below 600. I don't think I've ever seen one for $500, even used.

Yeah...I thought the same thing. If they went to $500 in the last couple of years, I would've definitely snagged a pair.

According to CamelCamelCamel they've been above $700 since early 2013 except for a few weeks last December when they went down to $594

Just be aware that both of these are manual turntables--no auto play or return of the tonearm.

Ah....that's useful info.  Is that pretty common these days?  Been forever since I had a working turntable.

Thanks again!

If you want an affordable turntable that is fully automatic, this is one to consider:

The manual ones discussed will give you better sound, but many want at least a a semi auto turntable that will automatically return the tonearm when the record is over.

As he said. Better sounding turntables have mostly been fully manual. How the convenience versus sound quality pays out is a personal call, of course, hated switching to manual initially when I started upgrading gear, but for used to it after a bit, and love that analog sound.

Thanks, Gents.  So perhaps a silly question.....do you have an opinion as to how this one compares to the unit on Massdrop a few weeks back with the "red" cartridge.

Not sure how good a deal this is.  Parrot Zik 1.0 for $185 at BuySonic (refurb's)

The Pro-ject at Massdrop is significantly better in all respects, but it was price about $100 more.  The Ortofon Red is an excellent entry level audiophile cartridge.  The turntable is better too.  Both are good values for the price.

I bought the Parrot Zik 1.0 refurbished from buysonic at $215, earlier (also included a case listing at $45).

Refurbished was indistinguishable from new, right down to the seal on the box.  Perfect condition (and I was replacing a pair I had bought new, so I knew what new was!)

Good deal!

Pro Ject is supposed to make very good sounding stuff at decent (for audiophile purposes) prices. I haven't personally heard the turntables they make, have read good things about them. I do have a tube phono preamp they make, really like the sound of that baby!

MLEs review is right next to the X1 review..

You're thinking of Mad Lust Envy's headphone review guide for surround sound gaming. This is the deals discussion thread

I might wait on that one to come around again, then.  It was about $325-330 once it dropped to its lowest price, if memory serves me.
