Valhalla 2 should have enough power to break the DT880.

What's your source?

+1 only had the Valhalla 1 and the DT880, both are sold now, but there is no way I could turn the Valhalla to full volume without waking up the neighbors and possibly destroying the 880s.

Ok,

You are double amping, means using the amp on the phone and the Valhalla. That is usually not desirable and can introduce more distortion.

A good setting in cases of double amping is 80% or 100% setting on your source to get the full cleanest output.
