I think first you have to decide if you definitely need it to run both low & high impedance headphones.  If you decide you only need it for the DT880, you can select something specifically tailored for high impedance.  If you go that way and are at all DIY inclined, you could take a look at the Bottlehead Crack.
 
If you want something that works well with both low & high impedance headphones, you may be want to look something with a low/high Z switch or low/high Z headphone jacks.  Have you read about the Torpedo?  You can either build it yourself from a kit or buy an assembled version direct from Beezar.
 
Both of those amps are under $500.

Thank jboehle, so tubes is the way. My DIY skills are limited to solder cables but could be a nice challenge for myself, in the Bottlehead Crack info they say it's ok for beginners, I'll think about it. During the summer I can't keep a tube amp close to me, I'm thinking to get something like an A1 Gold clone as secondary amp, should work fine with the Ms1i and 940.

Good news, the DT880's price on Amazon (250ohm Premium) dropped to $193. Don't remember ever seeing the Premiums that low. So if you're interested in the DT880's, now is your chance.

On the other hand, a second-hand Premium 600 Ohm pair can be found for around $200 these days.

I should have qualified that statement.

You can buy new 250 Ohm DT880 for $200.
So why would you buy new 600 Ohm for $280?
And why pay more than $150 for used DT880s?

I bought mine without doing much price research, unfortunately.
The store I bought them from charges approx. the same for 32, 250 and 600 Ohm DT880.

I am not positive of the fit, when I had the LCD-3's here I wanted to try the pads on the DT880's but didn't.

1) Since the LCD's were not mine I didn't want to risk anything happening to the pads.

2) They probably would have been incredible and that would ammount to $80 pads I was going to have to get.

Well the snow finally stopped and it's starting to get a little warmer... IF IT EVER STOPS RAINING!!

Soon time for coffee, cigars, the little tube hybrid amp and the DT880's out on the deck. The Who's "Tommy" will be the fist thing loaded onto the X3 when that day comes. We get the evening sun so it will be a fine listening session.

Sorry to hear you BAILED on us! But when one evolves to a higher standard it is expected.
