One thing I did notice about these headphones is the 3.5" jack does not sit in as well as I think it should when plugged in. I have had to twice check the connection due to a dropout of sound. Perhaps this is not normal.  Maybe this is the explanation for the problem I had earlier with them.

Then it's time to replace the stock cable...

You can always use one of these if you really need the 3.5mm connection...

I saw that at Radio Shack!  Probably not the sane quality, but the price is right.

How did you make this modification? Even how the headphones are connected to the cable is different.

Bob Graham
Quite a few of us here have converted our DT880's over to single or dual entry tiny XLR connections.

Basically you cut one holes or a hole in each cup, install a tiny XLR socket and hook up a DIY or replacement cable. Mine is wired the same as Audeze LCD cables are so it can be used on LCD's if and when I get a pair... :D

If you don't have DIY skills or the time, BTG Audio does excellent and reasonable conversions.

Thanks. I switched to the recently ordered DT880 headphones to see if I continue to have these problems. If I do not, then definitely a recabling is in order.

Are the LCD style xlr the same as akg's style? I would love to use my Akg's xlr cables for my DT880.

The LCD's are 4 pin and I believe your AKG is 3 pin but you could install a 3 pin tiny XLR socket and wire it up the same as the AKG

Thanks for the reply,
although not sure why would any xlr has 4 pin ... shouldn't standard xlr only has POS NAG GROUND?

btw am I the only one finding the DT880 already V-shaped?
really miss the natural mids on my AKGs.

IMO they are not V-shaped at all. Never heard them described as such. But the DT990s are V-shaped.

I know DT990 are even more V-shaped.
but I found my DT880's mid slightly too quite compare to my AKGs.
making it already slightly V-shaped.

DT880 might be flatter than my K702 Annie but the Annie sure sounds more natural than the DT880.
just my opinion.

I see. I think I understand what you are talking about. The mids may be a bit recessed. For example, the ATH-AD900X has comparatively a more forward midrange.

Exactly,

does the leather pads which supposed to be damping the highs going to be a semi fix for the recessed mids?
if I can some how boost the mids, it will be a lot less fatiguing to my ears because I will be able to listen to them at lower volumes.
any other suggestions?

thanks
