The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread

Almost by chance I have discovered how well the humble Beyer DT250 (250 Ohm version) works with the Chord Mojo. Good tonal balance, plenty of detail and genuine stage depth. There is some real synergy here.

I was going to sell them- now I think I’ll make them a new dedicated portable cable. Probably 6ft of Mogami 2534 (that’s what I’m using with my DT150s). Any other recommendations?
I use Mogami 2893 on my DT 150. I think it makes them a bit more refined compared to the stock cable.

I used to own the DT 250 - 250 ohms as well, but sold them due to the stock coiled cable dragging them down too much from my head. But seeing as the DT 150 cable, where I have the Mogami on now fits on the DT 250, I might get them again.

I remember the DT 250 being smoother and more refined yet clearer than the DT 150. And I used to own a worse Geek Out 450 back then which was a bit harsh on the DT 150. Now with the Mojo, the DT 150 is way better but I still wonder how mind blowingly refined the DT 250 might be now…

Wait, I just read that the DT 250 cable is a 7 pin, and the DT 150 a 6 pin...

Looks like DT 250 cable is same as the DT 190, which is the discontinued headset version of the DT 150

They are one-way compatible, i.e. the 6 pin cable fits into the 7 pin socket. It's a little bit tight but works

(Speaking from experience of 150 and 190 only, I don't own a 250)

Makes sense, as there is a headset version of the 250. In fact, the 250 was developed for (and AFAIK is still used for) outside broadcast use, especially speech. Just like the LS3/5A. And guess what- that’s exactly what the sound reminds me of!

The Beyer DT-250. The LS3/5A you can wear...

Like the LS3/5A, though, they’re not easy to drive properly (but rewarding when you do).

Yes the vocals are forward on the DT 250, yet the rest of the spectrum is perfectly present and extended, making it an excellent music headphone as well.

Soundwise, it's probably my favorite of all the headphones I've listened to.

Edit: No, sound only, they're DEFINITELY my favorites. The definition of a neutral AND natural headphone (250 ohm version) .

I'd like to make a new cable for my DT250. For those who have done it, did you disassemble / destroy the stock cable to do it or is there a source for the raw connector?

Beyer used to sell them as spare parts. I don’t seem to be able to find it any more, though. I’ll try Canford in the UK...

No luck! Could be out of production.

The beyerdynamic part number for the DT250's 7-pin cable connector is 905933 (or 905.933). I purchased two of these from Full Compass last year, though they are currently out of stock.

I did find this part on the European site showcomms.com for $18.17 shipped to the U.S.
https://www.showcomms.com/beyer/dt250-spares/beyerdynamic-dt250-7-pin-plug-905933.html

There were a couple of other European sites listing this part but showcomms.com had the best price among them and they have the part in stock.

Dual mogami w2944 cable, one cable for each channel. Recabled DT250-250 with direct entry to each side.

New cable with Mogami 2534 and Viablue 3.5mm Plug (which, incidentally, was an absolute pig to solder!).
