just tried my first set of buds to see if the mx500 fit still works for me and I'm glad I did because they don't fit that well. the left bud keeps falling out. jim offered to send me a bell shell to see if the fit works.

as an aside, I bought a set of yincrow x6 to see if the mx500 shape works and also they were well reviewed so I thought I'd use them to give "hi-fi" buds a try. I must say they don't sound very good at all. weak bass and peaky highs. my airpods 4 sound much much better. not sure what I was expecting for $20 but I'm hoping the tgxear stuff is far superior...
I don't own the X6, but it is usually described as darkish sounding with good quantity and quality bass.
Do they fall out because your ears are too big, or is it because of the somewhat big and wide stem?
I suggest not to dismiss the X6 just yet... Not only because they don't sound good to you now, but because this shell type is very widely used. I had a very similar problem in the beginning when I started on my earbud journey. You should try some silicone rings under the foam. There are two types.
Get both, the invest is not too high and chances are you will need them for other shell types too. Having both types of silicone rings around will help with finding the right fit for you and fit is absolutely crucial for earbuds. You might end up using the smaller type rings on one shell and bigger type rings on another shell type.
Here are the links to the Aliexpress articles:
bigger rings
smaller rings
Good luck! 😊

thank you. jim suggested the sunniva for my music type and amp
The sunniva's are great, I had a chance to try them from a friend and they really do follow the name etymology "Gift of the Sun", warm and neutral with excellent coloration in the mid-bass. Granted I pretty much exclusively use schiit/jdslabs sources cause I'm not really looking to pushing a ton of money into amps, so i have a really solid neutral/warm leaning foundation, but the Sunniva's crank that to 11 especially for earbuds.

I also changed my chain to become more linear and simple, not adding any power filters. The result is a more colder and analytical chain, more suitable for Sunnivas tuning. Now I am satisfied with my current "end-game".

Edit: Disabled Nvidia HD Audio Drivers and installed Equalizer APO to compensate for my bad volume knob of my Amp. Improves sound quality. Finally, no channel imbalance.

How do the bass/sub-bass on tgxear compare to IEMs?
Taking the DS as reference, the bass punch is good but there is a significant subbass roll-off after 70-80hz. Keep in mind that you can hear all the way till 20hz but you dont feel it like you do in iems. For me that represents a natural bass presentation. But genres like Rap/Pop/Electronic/EDM or anything that has subbass foundations, you will find earbuds in general to be lacking. But if you listen to Folk/Jazz/Rock/Orchestra/Classical/Chamber, in my opinion, I prefer earbuds over iems. The sheer openess and spacial presentation adds to the atmospheric element of listening which I seldom find in iems.

I listen to mostly rap, electronic and EDM lol but I can’t really wear IEMs that long because I have psoriasis and it’s uncomfortable and itchy.

It sounds like there’s no good replacement and i’ll have to stick with Airpods and headphones.

Headphone any day is a better choice than both iem and earbuds in terms of sonic pleasure and long term sustainability of hearing in this hobby. I am using AA Composer as my portable gear and I love it. Very close to an all rounder headphone.

If you're looking at 1k range, JM Audio has been making headphones with good reviews and easy to drive.

Can you recommend a portable headphone for under $1k?
Are you including earbuds when you say portable sets? Or do you mean actual headphones?
