Before you go to a TOTL set, you should double check the shell type that suits you best. Since you've got a very healthy budget, I'd again recommend reaching out to Jim via Instagram or here and begin the sales journey. He honestly provides the best customer service and isn't going to push a set on you if he doesn't think his tuning or shells will work.
To piggyback on this - absolutely need to see which shell style works for you. The bell shapes don't work for me whatsoever but the mx shells are perfect - I feel like most people it's the other way around. The weight of the shell might be a factor too - since tgxear has metal versions of both shell types, you might actually find that to be heavier than you want and the plastic shell, while cheap, is much more comfortable.

Message him. I'd suggest Tgx totem. My favorite bell shell buds from him

I think Jim might suggest some if you ask. He might also send you sample shells if you're serious about buying a Tgxear set.

Jim can do plastic or aluminium MX500, steel or aluminium bells. I don't know if he would do plastic bells anymore.

It's really important you get the fit because YMMV - I myself think Jim's steel bell is comfier than his plastic mx500, even though the former is heavier. And the added weight gives it a premium feel.

Finally, there are accessories to help with fit if any of the shells + foam are not wide enough. I use silicone ring + foam for all MX500, but don't need any for my steel bell.

thank you all. will go with your suggestions.

can’t believe i didn’t know hifi earbuds were a thing… would have never wasted my time on IEMs
IEM are relegated to gym use for me now - I hate driver pressure in my ears and the fact that even a slight change in tips makes IEM sound drastically different. I gave up on finding a "good" iem after I realized how tip dependent they are.

For me IEMs constantly fall out, so for the past 20 years or so of wearing them I just live with always having to push them back into my ears every 10 minutes.

Apple airpods 4 actually sound decent and I can even work out with them without them falling out. And now I can get high end earbuds... oh man what a time to be alive haha.

He actually just recently did a tio in resin bells for me, not sure if he has a huge stock of them but definitely doable, getting them soon along with another set that seem pretty sick. Very excited to try them as an early christmas gift to myself.

just tried my first set of buds to see if the mx500 fit still works for me and I'm glad I did because they don't fit that well. the left bud keeps falling out. jim offered to send me a bell shell to see if the fit works.

as an aside, I bought a set of yincrow x6 to see if the mx500 shape works and also they were well reviewed so I thought I'd use them to give "hi-fi" buds a try. I must say they don't sound very good at all. weak bass and peaky highs. my airpods 4 sound much much better. not sure what I was expecting for $20 but I'm hoping the tgxear stuff is far superior...

I've owned the serratus for a bit in the mx500 shells and they are phenomenal, and honestly my recommendation if you're struggling with mx500 fitment is to go for bell shells and then get the forming over ear hooks that you can place around the wire near the shell. the bells that Jim uses have decently short stems.

I can't think of a single earbud I have tried from Jim that isn't great, I have tried a bunch of different colored serratus, desolation black sand, totems, etc. And I'm getting the next two pairs and super excited to try them next week. I pretty much almost always opt for the bells now though because the mx500 just does some weirdness for me at the bottom of the ear.
