Tempotec V3 DAP - small, powerful, functional with Hiby OS

if anyone is interested in this i just tested v3 charging and it charges with 4.95v and 1amp at 5.2w and this is the fastest that can go
Thanks. The internal photo shows AXP2101 IC and in accordance datasheet it has 100mA-1A internal linear battery charger. So it's normal for this IC. Bad choice though. Probably it was cheaper that something like AXP202 with 1.8A max current (HiBy R3Pro has AXP202 https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hiby-r3-pro-portable-bluetooth-dap.916299/post-17418187 ). Or even AXP228 like Cayin N3Pro has (USB3.0-compatible flash charger up to 2.2A charge current).

yep they've ruined what could've been a great DAP and i would have no issues paying 400-500 Euro if everything was working as it should it had EQ preamp and PEQ you know all basic features and it was litte more powerfull but it is what it is still better to me then even 1000 euro Android dap

I've played a bit more with it this evening and i have to say I'm quite impressed with the sound quality. I've compared it to my Topping DX3 pro+ using an a/b input switcher and they were almost indistinguishable. I have to say that the v3 even has slight edge in terms of soundstage over the Topping.

On the other hand I'm a bit disappointed with some of the music files not showing up in their folders. But I'm hoping this will be fixed .

For 150£ i think it will be great device once the major bugs are fixed .

Tip :
If anyone wants a good and cheap case for their Tempotec V3, the Gameboy Advance SP case ( it has to be the SP version) is a pretty good fit.
Ebay has them for around 5-8$.

215 mWrms -> ~304 mWpk
304(pk) x 2ch = 608 mWpk
So in a technical sense, their specs aren't complete lies. Just not abiding by conventional standards of presentation (measurements in RMS, for single channel)

And, just like I said before, they sound exactly alike.
I own both these devices - March III and V3.
Are they able to drive your most demanding headphones well?

Is it bad? Tempotec claims V3 is almost the same as V6, which was well received. But I don't know if V6 sounds exactly like the March III. So, who can compare them?
For 150USD was not bad deal the V3. But after all problems and lies, it was only hyped by the own brand. It was very good to be true hahaha
What is true, it that the sound is really good, but also I've never tried R3ii or AP80 Pro X to compare :b

Currently testing it with my Sundara (finally)... So far so good, no distortion that I could tell, even on bass heavy tracks. Resolution is alright too on busy tracks. Compared it with my DC04 Pro as a sanity check (this dongle has slightly better resolution; and a bit more headroom to crank up further).

Using it as a player, I need to crank it up to 90-95/100 on the 3.5mm output for my preferred listening loudness (i.e. quite loud); 75-85 on the 4.4mm output; both on high gain, no MSEB/EQ.

Using it as a DAC on my laptop (on 4.4mm output for this test), I'm at ~75-80/100 for most tracks on the music player, system and V3 volume maxed out. That's with EQ and -3.5dB preamp gain. If I were to do it with max media and system vol, V3 would be at around 75-80. Without EQ and negative gain, it's ~60-70/100.
-----

Edit (further test):

Fully charged my V3, plugged it into a USB power meter to see the rough power consumption when going full ham vol 100/100 (again, trying to match my listening volume), high gain out of the 4.4 output, EQ on with -10dB gain, ReplayGain turned off, bass heavy and busy tracks played natively on the unit itself.

During the bassy and busy parts, the difference between an idle (with screen off) player and playback is ~100mA (500 mW). As to how much goes to SoC or driving my Sundara, I have no idea. Assuming the average draw for the X1000E chip is given as 200mW, if that other ~300mW goes to driving the headphone, then I suppose it is definitely adequate for the task. Could do with more gain though (for quieter tracks). Still no distortion or clipping.
