WM1Z (U) sounds soooo sweet. Like honey
It's my end game as well.
No doubt after using the Bright tuning for the longest time and then growing a liking for neutral after a while, I have also eventually settled on the WM1Z tuning. Its just so well balanced and Ive been stuck on it for about a year now in combination with J3 & PMV 2. Does great for home use as well as auto, at least with my current hardware.

I tried Bright again yesterday, to confirm what I was hearing..... and I found it to be very hard to leave the WM1Z tuning.
I don't like the WM1Z tuning with "ANY" of the other settings turned on though (Alternate DAC and PlusVer1/2). It sounds wrong with my gear and mods.

been months since i last played with the regions/tunings , i should maybe try some new combos ?

still not sure how the sound changes with the dac/plus tunings etc
I played with Bright Sinatra and dragons and then WN1C and also a little bit of the AC initialization and the plus B one and plus be two most and it was fun to see change. Go to hear change not to see. I finally settled with the That our great Danish friend Joseph.

Trying to figure out why startup database scan is long on some devices and I need some data from those of you who have problems with it.

Need following info:
  • how many seconds does it take to complete a full startup scan (progressbar duration)
  • how many seconds does it take to complete a partial scan (one song added after device startup)
  • Wampy debug log (misc->debug checkbox->create log file). Log will be placed in <internal storage>/wampy/log/log.user.<date>.

Startup database speed is dependent on two things, the number of tracks and the speed of the microSD card.

Your answer is incomplete and based on personal experience. I believe that long database scan speed is caused by software error on some devices (mine is not affected). To prove it I need the information I requested in my post.

an updated region chart with J3
There is no such region, only two regions matter: CEW2 and KR3. Region chart is a product of imagination.

Consult https://github.com/unknown321/wampy/blob/master/VOLUME_TABLES.md for general overview and https://github.com/unknown321/wampy/blob/master/MAKING_OF_VOLUME_TABLES.md for more technical details.

Are you a sound science person?

Sorry your assumption is incorrect.

I've had my WM1A and Z for 6+ years and started with 128GB microSD cards up to my current 1.5TB cards. When I moved from a 1TB Extreme card to a 1.5 TB Ultra I observed a a large increase in the database rebuild time. So moving from a card with a Up to 160MB/s read and Up to 90MB/s write to a card with Up to 150MB/s read and they only quote a Minimum: 10 MB/s write speed explains the speed difference. I also saw and see the same speed differences on 3 different players, (2) 1A's and (1) 1Z.

If there was a software issue in the base Sony firmware it would have been reported multiple times and fixed by Sony.

@colonelkernel8 belligerently offered me $10k to see if I could tell the difference between an Apple Dongle and a Sony DMP-Z1 in a blind test.
It would have been like taking candy from a baby. He chickened out in the end after talking extremely tough...
Anyways.

Do you think there are audible differences between an Apple dongle, a WM1A, or a DMP-Z1?

Sorry your assumption is incorrect.
Under certain circumstances database scan skips existing files and should be blazing fast (as observed on my device). There were several reports of people waiting for minutes on device startup; I believe that the cause is a software malfunction. Therefore I need more information from affected users, which may (or may not) confirm the bug.

Hardware has nothing to do with regions. This is clearly told on pages I linked; if it's not clear, please re-read the pages and ask related questions. You should also continue reading this thread from whatever page you stopped on (was it 480+?).

=========

I've updated wampy and scrobbler installers, installation process should be less confusing now.
There is no need to upgrade, no new functionality at all, just installers.
You can test them if you want and report any issues (or lack of them).

I'm just trying to figure out if you listen with your ears or rely on things you see on a piece of paper.... or what you think you've found in the code.

The code, only the code. Ears are unreliable. Technologies that are described with buzzwords without code available (like aptx/ldac) should be used with a grain of salt. Audio tech is not a religion based on spiritual experience, its output can be measured and compared (like here); code can be reverse engineered (like I did).

Anyway, I still need info to take a better look at database scan issues.

So you don't trust your ears.
Okay, that answers it.
Thank you.
