Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

The update should come in up to 2-3 weeks.

The higher volume output also works for the A35/45/55 players, as well as for ZX300. It will only work while Direct Source is on, and with all formats except DSD and MQA.

On A45 I usually listen at around 80-85, but with the higher volume output I can listen at around 40.

Are there any downsides to doing this like overclocking a processor to much and burning it out ?

Or higher battery consumption ?

And what is it doing, is it just delivering more volume or is it actually delivering more driving power to better control hard to drive phones ?

It is actually delivering more volume. Higher battery consumption may occur (going at it logically - I didn't do a test until the battery runs out), and the sound is still clear even at 120/120.

There's basically no overclocking involved. It's more about using something that it's already in the firmware.

So it’s a lot more gain but not actually more power output (mW or V) ?

Yes.

This "much higher gain" mode is already being used in certain situations by the player in the stock firmware. More mW or V would mean that in those certain situations the player could just output more mW, which is not happening.

In any case, besides the increased volume, it also feels like it's a kind of a stronger sound. It seems to drive some speakers I have better - and this comes from the A45.

This could be helpful towards a stronger output via the 3.5 port when going to an amp, for example.

Looking forward to it although I don’t really need it with my headphones

Looking forward to testing it with my zx300!

Is the EU volume cap still on nw-a105? I have conflicting information from reading different sources.
As far as I’m aware nobody has found a way to remove it on the Android Walkmen

That what I was afraid off. There were some info on reddit that in 3rd version of the firmware it is removed however the information seemed so general that I should have been more suspicious. Thanks.

It's not removed 100%.
