Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Higher volume can only be obtained with a higher electromotive force (voltage) and a power supply capable of supplying electic current to maintain the voltage. So, if at max volume on the mod firmware is louder than stock firmware, the voltage amplitude is necessarily higher on the mod firmware.Yes.
This "much higher gain" mode is already being used in certain situations by the player in the stock firmware. More mW or V would mean that in those certain situations the player could just output more mW, which is not happening.

So is the volume at 120 higher with the new gain mode than on normal high gain or is it just shifting where on the volume scale volume increases ?Yes.

Volume at 120 with the gain boost is higher than volume at 120 without it, even if "high gain" from player's settings is not active.
There is a difference of up to 40-45 (/120) levels - it's like 75 becomes 30-35. Now a volume of 1 in normal conditions won't exactly be like 40-45 with the gain boost.
Combining this with "lower gain" reduces the 40-45 levels difference.

The update should come in up to 2-3 weeks.
The higher volume output also works for the A35/45/55 players, as well as for ZX300. It will only work while Direct Source is on, and with all formats except DSD and MQA.
On A45 I usually listen at around 80-85, but with the higher volume output I can listen at around 40.
Out of interest why will it not work with DSD files?

Hey everyone! So like many of you, I have been enjoying Mr. Walkman's "Walkman One" firmware on my WM1A but I had a question. I just acquired a used WM1Z and I have actually been having a problem getting a firmware with a sound that meets or exceeds the sound I get from my WM1A with Walkman One Neutral External Tuning... Would anyone here who has a WM1Z be able to recommend a firmware and/or a external tuning that sounds good for the WM1Z? I only listen to my daps through the SE output as I only have the Philips Fidelio X2 and the Periodic Audio Beryllium, both of which are unbalanced only unfortunately... Anyways, I would appreciate any and all recommendations!

And you find those settings work with all of your earphones? If you don't mind me asking which earphones from your collection would you say works best with the 1Z? I was thinking about investing in the IER-Z1R but I've yet to pull the trigger do to the price and possible fit issues...I use 1Z tuning, Plus v2 and Region J3 on my 1A and 1Z.

It's because while the Direct Source mode is active, DSD and MQA follow a separate audio path in comparison to other PCM sources.

There was a new version of Walkman one released a few weeks back in this forum. That has the J3 region. It’s a game changer. Try it.Region J3? I only see J as the only Japan region tuning.

Use the tunings from the official release (same as the ones in the CFW folder).
