Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

I mean that from Japan you can buy 2 different units. One that comes with japan only language and the other with language options. I'm just wondering if the pure Japan version might be different enough to not accept MrWalkman's firmware for some reason.

The firmware is identical on all versions, the options are purely controlled by the region you set either via the WalkmanOne settings file or if you dont use WalkmanOne you can set it with the rockbox nwdest tool

I am currently testing a new firmware from Mrwalkman which significantly increases the power of sony.
To give an idea to feed my odin mk2 I need a volume of 75 in direct source.
With the Mrwalkman firmware I am at a volume of 25 to 27.

My Wm1z is now more powerful than my sp2000T and sp1000 high gain amp (10 vrms) and a friend's sp2000.

No problem either to feed a 250ohm dt990 on the unbalanced output of my Wm1z volume 50.

For me no need to add an amp behind the sony.

I don't know how he did it but he's a genius and a super nice person.

I who had left to buy an N8II only for the additional power now no longer want to order it.

Mrwalkman saved me a lot of money.

I'm going to focus on buying a new helmet instead. Many thanks to Mr Walkman

I am finally able to post my testing results also. Awesome. Normally, my volume would be in the 50s and 60s but with this firmware, I stay between 18 and 24. It adds noticeable power.
At present, it is only available in direct source mode. So, I miss being able to adjust the effects. But it is now a nice alternative sound for me. Thank you, Mr. Walkman again.

By the way, I am listening on a Nayparm modded WM1A with 64 audio u12t.

At least that won’t be a problem for me as I only ever use Direct. On the other hand I don’t need any more volume for any of my phones, I never go over 70 normal gain

I manage to make a shure srh1840 sing with the unbalanced output of my Wm1z volume 50. it is 65ohms and has a sensitivity of 96db. Mr Walkman's firmware is a blessing again thanks to him. Next week I will have the chance to listen to a diana v2 and a phi. Many thanks again to Mr Walkman

Alternative DAC in settings + V2 will edge out the bass slightly. But only maybe. It’s your ears that will decide!

Off cause that can help too. I do find J‘s bass compressed and artificial, so you might want to try J3 from the latest Walkman One FW from a few pages ago. Then you have silver cable & tip to change too.

All walkmans are using the same following

Volume 75 out of 120
DC Phase Linearizer Type A Std

The key difference of the new WM1AM2 Walkman over the zx507 is in these areas:

Bass response feels more deeper, more textured and has more hard hitting slams with much more air movement pressure.

Vocals has more expressiveness, with more noticeable ASMR tiny breathing sound details.

High hats feels much more airy and extended. You can really sense the atmosphere of the music so much better. Live concert recordings feels so real like, with every loud instruments and tiny details all presented to you in a spacious soundscape.

The WM1A2 has the ability to retain very strong bass dynamics with amazing sound clarity at the same time in the most complex loud sounding music passages. It seems to me that the S-master hx amplifier has become alot more capable and powerful sounding.

Is it a worthy upgrade from the ZX507? Yes. the WM1AM2 sounds much more powerful and dynamic. It still has the same ZX507 sound signature but has evolved to be sound even more refined and dynamically more powerful.”

He hasen’t tried the Android players, he’s just quoting another users impressions and saying that the impressions sound a lot like what he hears with his modded player and I totally agree with that feeling
