The M2's power remained at the same level. But thanks to android, it will now be impossible to install firmware. I am staying on my Sony NW-WM1A, which, thanks to MrWalkman, has received a second life and will not become obsolete for a long time.

From what I know, the Malaysian Sony factory has stopped producing new WM1A and WM1Z devices since 2020 or so. So whatever stocks there are in the market now are the only ones available.Of that I have little doubt, Sony will want it's ROI soon as possible and there's also a big hike in price...

I stand corrected. Maybe they stopped temporarily due to Covid. There are still popping up devices with build date in second half of 2021

May be stopped temporarily only. My 1A was made in Malaysia in Aug 2021.I stand corrected. Maybe they stopped temporarily due to Covid.

How do you guys know when your WM1A was manufactured? I don't see any manufacturing date on the player or the box.
Anyone driving mainly both MDR and IER Z1R around? Which custom FW do you find are best for the 1A?

Mine doesn't have that. It just says "MADE IN MAYLAYSIA." Mine is also not a sticker; it looks like silk screen print, like the "HOLD" label by the hold button. Here's a pic of mine.

Then there should be a production date on the box. It’ll be on the same sticker that has the serial number and model number info.Mine doesn't have that. It just says "MADE IN MAYLAYSIA." Just had my first experience with some triple flanged tips for my IEMs and lets just say the difference was literally night and day compared to the traditional single flanged regular ones I've been using. Its quite literally changed the sound signature altogether and playing off the Walkman, im getting a whole new level of detail and resolution that I've never heard.
Its took the very inconsistent frequency response of my set of IEMs, the Bright Tuning, and I'd almost say leveled the frequencys out entirely. No frequency seems blatantly to strong or to weak. Previously this was very noticeable.
99% of all previous sibilance issues are gone, there is a new level of detail on literally everything, separation is drastically improved the distinctions between each and everything are simply put amazing (for my standards)
Its basically took the whole spectrum and evened out the frequencys, emphasized it, and brung the detail of everything way out.
I knew a good seal for tips could make a big difference but this went way beyond.

Thanks for checking! That's interesting.Maybe they’ve removed that info then. Here’s a pic of my box.![]()
Maybe we can guess at least the manufacturing year of mine. My serial number is after yours: 5059xxx, and I bought it in August 2020.
There's no way to be sure though.
