Mate, when the dmp a35 comes out, can you go q comparison? I’ve been holding the trigger on a 55 but I’ve got 45, I still wonder if there’s any audio gains, I don’t imagine it to be a massive change but still, I want a spare player just in case

Yeah, I can do a comparison between the DMP A35 and the DMP A55 once the DMP A35 mod is released. When it is I’ll let you know if there is any sound comparisons.

I also have the excellent NW-A55 and have installed the firmware mod and so far I'm very impressed. The mod doesn't appear to have changed the volume hack (which is good news). Bass is definitely more pronounced and it sounds great through my iBasso IT00 and Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10's although not quite so good when listening to the Fiio FD1's (they already have a fairly nicely emphasised bass anyway.

Excellent work nonetheless. I also had problems with Windows Defender and my anti virus software but was OK once I got my head around it.

I love both the sound quality and the genuinely useful range of features found in this little player - really sounds as good as my old LG V20 phone.

I am applying the SonyNWDestTool to remove the EU volume cap from my new Sony NW-A55. What is the best region to apply for the NW-A55?

If nobody will have recommendations, you should just experiment and see what you like.

Music is something personal.

Region J is pretty neutral, you could start with that. Avoid CEW regions, they have the volume limitations.

Thanks for the suggestion. Music is indeed personal. I will try Region J though I’m a bit worried about the text being in Japanese. To save the hassle is it easy to select English as language or is the word “English“ in Japanese?

If you'll have the language to English before changing the region, the language will remain English.

The language will go to Japanese on region J only if you're gonna reset the settings. After changing the region, you only need to restart the player, even if the destination tools says to reset the settings. So just restart the player, without resetting the settings, and the language will remain English.

Rock box solves all that. I bought both my DAPs as J region and converted both to all languages

I very nearly bought the 105 but decided that it was too expensive to justify so I ended up getting the 55 and I'm still glad I did.

Let's face it, when it comes to streaming your music we all seem to have smartphones these days, and the 55 connects very quickly and reliably with my Note 8 using the LDAC codec - very useful for me. I also find the USB DAC function useful as well.

My volume unlocked 55 can just about drive my Sennheiser 598's to sufficiently high enough levels for use.

It's a brilliant little player.

Exactly. It can sound just great with the firmware mod, and the battery lasts a lot longer. And indeed, streaming can be done from the smartphone.

Do you know if the A55 has a bigger database partition than the A45 as the A45 could not handle more than about 38.000 tracks ?

Actually, both have the same size, the one that WM1 players also have.

Can I install SonyNWDestTool on top of the DMP firmware?

SonyNWDestTool doesn't install anything, it just changes the region of the player, and I didn't do anything that would affect the regions.
