As one of those "mac" users, I had to get an emulator (parallels) then install Winbloze Windows PeeCee to get this Firmaware installed.

So worth it and some donations coming your way.

Could you @MrWalkman make the fw packages also available without the windows stuff around it? There are people without a windows machine in their lives, but e.g. with the linux scsitools it was easy to mod the A30's firmware (using your work, but made available in its "pure" form by another member, @Vrilly)

I’m on a six hour train journey, and I’ve never been so excited to plug my ears in - the current fw makes music sound... alive, that is the best way to describe it.

the 1A as stock by comparison sounds plastic, fake.

I know that method, but it wouldn't work fully right. You would not be able to apply the external tuning thing, which is done by the Sony's software update tool.

You could get the UPG files yourself. The .exe packages are self-extracting RAR archives, that can be extracted with 7z for example (my point is that they could be extracted with more than WinRAR).

Well crap. Just installed the dmp-a50 firmware. I have never heard the koss porta pros sound so good. Sounds a lot cleaner, more distinct bass and much better separation which contributes to an all-round cleanness and tightness.

What's the difference between the A50 and A50R firmware? I also assume the A50 firmware won't work on the A40 series, correct? I have a WM1A arriving tomorrow, but I also have an A45 I'd like tp update.
