You could lay on your back in a big grassy field and dream of what the ultimate 1Z signature would be, and it wouldn’t be THIS good. Simply another example of reality being stranger than fiction. To say I have never heard anything like this is an understatement.

The 1Z treble was always a slight issue for me. The treble I used to call borderline “hot”, yet now it’s somehow a gorgeous light from above. I’m now hearing all kinds of new and unexplainable elements in the old songs I’m familiar with? Small embellishments which have been so subtle before they simply were not heard, yet hearing them for the first time they seem intentional? Hah

The new (to us) placed intentions in the music that we never heard. The fact that now sounds have a natural texture that allows a deeper emotional meaning. I’m going to stop as I’ve said enough, also maybe the white van will pull up out front and the guys in the white jumpsuits may take me away for observation?

There's a reason why I consider this DAP with the mod better than other DAPs that cost above $4,000. The IER-Z1R and MDR-Z1R helped identify some new sounds as you stated from lots of songs I listened to in the past. Recently, trying it the Focal Clear also opened up some new experiences using both the 3.5mm and the XLR to the 4.4mm convertor. There are some nearby parks which are very ideal to lay down and relax. I'll go try that tomorrow :)

I think @bflat Experienced the following issue: while playing flac album, two tracks had skipping (static-like) noise. I thought the flac were corrupted so I did a check on dbpower amp and Audi tester, none returned error but OK so what the hell? I also ran this test on the hard drives and found no error

I had this on my ZX507 recently, thought it was a corrupted file, which I've had in the past with Mp3's, or the cable had dust in the mmcx connectors. I just restarted the player and all has been good since. It was soon after a factory reset probably coincidence.

@MrWalkman,

I have just purchased a WM1A, which FW should I start? FYI, I have been lurkin here for a while and downloaded most of your FW.

I might suggest you start with v2.00 of the stock software and spend some time with it first. then give @MrWalkman versions a go. give your ears and brain a reference point to start with.

Also the burn-in period is real so if your 1A is new out-of-the-box the first 50 hours should be dramatic in improvement. 200 hours per 3.5mm and 200 hours per 4.4mm amplifier. The reasoning is that you should get to know the player to be able to fully judge future enhancements.

I second this, as my players are 152 hours for the 1Z and 184 hours for my 1A. Lots of stuff to discover on your audio journey :)

@MrWalkman

I have WM1A. It's on WM1AZ+. If I want to install the new dmp-wm1. Is this the step?

Change the unit to WM1A
Install WM1 back to stock
Install DMP-WM1

Do I need to install DMP-WM1 EXT Tuning?

WM1 Back to Stock is old, and I didn't mention it in the steps anymore, so you don't need to install that. Also, you shouldn't need to switch the model to 1A, especially if you're gonna install the last version of DMP-WM1 (from October 4th).

So you should just install DMP-WM1, and then apply the DMP-WM1 Ext. Tuning.

Got it, Thanks.

edit: Wow, this is awesome. My balanced EX1k sounds a whole lot better now. I'll send you a beer later MrWalkman.

Now, if only you can work on the TA-ZH1ES ;)
