I have installed the A50R firmware and it works wonderfully. I believe there is a clear quality sound improvement over the “normal“ nwa-55L. Also the Bluetooth receiver function which I like very much, works flawlesly. I still have to play around and specifically try the equalizer but so far excellent. Great work MrWalkman!

DMP-WM1 is like raising stuff up and creating stratification. Somehow there is a divine texture which removes elements above the soundstage and brings them into focus. This causes known sounds to take on a new and different character yet you know it’s simply a clearer view of what they are. Nothing seems enhanced only put under an audio-microscope. The fact that there is this clinical clarity mixed perfectly with warm musicality. Guitars take on a personality in their tone separating themselves and distinguishing their unique pace & rhythm. The fact that everything’s interactive yet in place. The drums have a natural character and authority along with the bass if mixed tight; sits in the pocket clean and trimmed. Sounds are now simply new and different but not because they are actually different but because they are more detailed than ever. It’s kind of like if you were walking and never studied the ground, yet one day picked up a handful of rocks and dirt under your feet and became mesmerized by the other world it was. Stuff is just different under inspection. Small breaths and multi-tracked vocals reveal added effort by the producers, yet some details come off aloof and inspired, as small whispers off to the side. What was brick-walled treble is now a full aquarium of life. But the final best part is everything is simply so digestible? The fact that it’s shown in some effortless storyline? The music is talking and the tone is speaking emotions............

Yup, hands Down the best firmware. I laid in bed for 4 hours last night, listening to Album after Album,
Jazz just sounds divine.

I would be curious to compare a wm1a with kasei mod and dmp tuning against the real dmp z1 ... certainly, it is normal for the dmp to outclass the walkman, but I never had the opportunity to try a real endgame like the z1 or the dave .
It's a feeling, I don't have any proof of that, but I don't think the price difference between the wm kasei / dmp tuning, and the z1 is justified.

Well, I was so curious about this firmware I went to great lengths to finally download it. Being a Mac user, for 25 year, I had to get a windows device. What with the pandemic and all asking a friend was kinda tough, anyways most of them don't have windows 10. I checked the used market, too much, but I found a Asus 2&1 thingy at The Source, the old Radio Shack where I live, and bought it. It was difficult because windows is complicated, coming from a Mac. Anyway, it worked and what do you know. It was worth it and then some. I figure a small investment for a really big sound difference. Well done Mr. Walkman, well done.

Nice story man, and I'm glad you like it!

I had a Mac for a while, and I used Bootcamp, it really works great!

I tried to use bootcamp but my old MacBook just didn't have the room. The Asus route seemed the the most cost effective in my case.
If any of the Canadian viewers are interested I have a really pristine little laptop for sale.

So I just got my wm1a, but when I go to extract the files my antivirus says it's a trojan. Anyone else experience this? Wondering what I should do.

It's a false positive. Is the antivirus Microsoft Defender?

Anyway, do as you wish, of course.

Is due to MS defender being a touch over zealous. If in doubt up load the file to Virus Total, is likely due to executable files being compressed with already compressed executables within the file. MS Defender see's it as suspicious as that's a mechanism how malware can be deployed. In this case it's the way that the mod can be run and loaded outside of Sony's official framework.

Q-6

Yeah, I'm not real worried. Got it installed without a hitch. Sounds great! Happy to have a Sony (other than my trusty A45) player again.

I use Avast antivirus and it also comes up with that. Perhaps as it is an unofficial installer it gets flagged but it is absolutely safe.
I must say that it does infect your walkman with outstanding sound quality which causes infectious grooves and it is diffict to remove as stock is extremely dull after experiencing these firmwares. You're in for a treat.
