I'm pretty set on buying myself a WM1A as a graduation present...

Just a couple more months to go.

I must be pretty out of the ordinary for refusing to spend more than around S$300 on my mobile phone (Moto G represent) but am somehow okay with dropping S$1600 on a music player

Buy a 2nd hand 1A in HF forum if you can
- it’s gonna save you quite a lot of money, should be around $700+
- 2nd hand means already burn in, the longer the hours, theoretically the better it sounds. Of course there’s a little trade of in terms of battery time, but it shouldn’t matter too much

i must be the only person in Greece (if not more countries around the world) with a 10$ burner phone and a 4K portable setup for music (wm1a+custom zeus XR +1960s 2 wire cable)

Music , the greatest addiction of them all

OT - Red and White Mobile on North Bridge Rd have very good prices on used and "used" mobile phones. The ones I bought from them were 1 or 2 generations behind the then current iPhone and in factory mint new condition. I think they have some deal to move "old" model stock as "used" so that the headline prices is not ruined.

Can check some slightly used wm1a going recently for 800-1k sgd a friend sold his for 900sgd recently it has about 150 hrs on it

I am sure that it was hard for you all, like it was hard for me, to read that Mr. Walkman needs to sell his WM1A player due to real world issues.
I find it unfair and a situation that should/can be fixed by this forum (sorry @MrWalkman, this time I am ignoring your asks).
I understand he is not looking for charity, but all due respect this is not one.

If you have not run both it will say so in Unit information

That's correct as the custom firmware is based on WM1Z, same as my WM1A reports being a DMP-1Z as it's running DMP-WM1 FEv2 custom firmware.
