Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

The ZX300 was my introduction to modern Sony Walkmans - before that and after CD/cassette portables, I had a long journey via my first Philips Mp3 player around 2002, on to Apple, Rio, MPIO, Cowon iAudio, Fiio and then the ZX300. I was sad to see Rio go out of business in the mid 00s (I was their distributor at the time!) - they were a fantastic brand (owned by Denon/Marantz) that got gobbled up by the Apple machine success.

67 here (sounds weird even writing it down!), been an audiophile since my mid-twenties. Remember getting the first Walkman when visiting Henry Lewy (Joni Mitchells sound man) in Malibu..... another lifetime....

I imagine the ancient Greeks would be sitting in the agora in Athens and having a similar conversation. :)

Listening to 1Z through ta - zh1es with AQ Carbon cable and cradle, plus ier -z1r. Does it get any better??
Possibly not but the custom fw don’t in this setup contribute anything

Anyone else on the fence regarding whether to pick one of these up now or to wait for the updated version? 5 years post-release is an awkward timeframe to buy a DAP.
Get one used, and thank me later.

Just financial issues. I was also thinking of letting go of the Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro or of the Sony Z7M2, but that's a harder decision to make.

That's really nice of you, but I never wanted donations to work like this. I'm ok with letting go of the 1A, and I'll still have a taste of Sony's sound with the A45/A55.
Stay good brother.. This past year and a half has been nuts on many. Hope you make it thru and can get your goods back after everything settles out. But mentals, health and financial well being come first. You've done alot for us and I've beered you before and I will gladly do it again.m! You have made our music listening during these nutso times times great. We got ya bro.

I understand that.I was surprised by how good that combination sounded. Redcarmoose made the point some time ago, each component in the Sony
Signature Series was designed to complement the other, and he's right. As a full set, it works really well.

I’ve never actually connected my 1Z to the TA even when I had the full cradle

i am 45 , so 80s were all sony walkmans , i loved sony design so much that I never bought another brand

in fact for a very long time (20-30 years) i never bought another brand than sony(for walkmans/discmans etc) and NIKE (for shoes)

so sony walkmans in the 80s
sony discmans in the 90s
sony minidisc in the 00s

10s was a change of shift as i started buying cowon/ibasso DAPS , until i bought a ZX2 dap in 2015 and it has been all sony again ever since (wm1a in 2017 and still going strong)

also i think we see many people in their 40s+ cause a )this hobby is an acquired taste that takes time to fully embrace and b) you need someone who is full on serious about his music

It is the best, let’s keep this on topic, it is better than the Walkmans.
