Sony NW-ZX300

I agree and in comparison it seems so much more robust for me! I would like to see more adoption of these definitely.
Indeed, I've never used 2.5mm, but even 3.5mm is a bit thin - 4.4mm has a really solid feel to it and I no longer feel concerned about it in my pocket

Just joined the ZX300 club. Reasons I chose this over the DX150:

- 4.4mm output (without having to pay an extra $200 for an extra amp module)
- Battery life. Too many DAPs are like smartphones - going for slim form factor over outstanding battery life
- LDAC - still very few DAPs with aptX HD but several Bluetooth DAC/amplifiers and headphones becoming available
- Size and weight feels so good in the hand, as does the matte glass touchscreen

What I don't like: proprietary connector

The FiiO M7 might have been a good alternative but I'm still salty over the train wreck that the X1ii was. :D

Am loving it so far. Pairs exceptionally well with the IE 800 S and EE Bravado. It makes the AR-M20 sound a bit dull in comparison.

In some circles that would be considered a "side-grade". I think you know that considering you quoted 'upgrade'

LOVE my ZX 300! Put it to work last night with my Z7's and my KK balanced cable. Just amazing. SE low gain was way too quiet. SE high gain was undoubtedly louder, but the same. Balanced low gain was definitely better. My final resting spot is balanced, high gain and running at a volume of about 65, out of 120. The cable is great, feels/looks nice and is much shorter than the standard Z7 cable. And the blue miter box is beautiful! Goes on in about 10 seconds, but takes about five minutes to get off due to the rubber back rubbing again the material inside the case.
I am very, Very happy with this purchase and finally completed my home set-up. These really do pair wonderfully.

I will try the Grado's tomorrow, but they are VERY easy to run and the SE low gain will likely be all they need. But I will probably try the high gain anyway.

Also, I am thinking that this balanced cable would probably work with my Meze 99 Classic's...

I don't think it's true, i'm sure no one is going to buy this with only 16GB internal storage for a audiophile quality player, and probably at a high price unless it's some think like USD 200, but that will be too underpriced.
True, In China, you can get both 16 GB version and 64 GB. I just bought one and it's being shipped. Don't know if the sound quality will be the same or not like the Japanese version.

I have the Opus #1 Metal and found that the ZX300 is better in all area, bass, details, soundstage, battery life and UI.

Before the OPUS I had FiiO a X5 Gen 2 and thought that the OPUS was a big step up. Going to the Sony was a bigger step up.

This has been asked before but it seems there wasn’t a definite answe. Does anyone know what is the output impedance (OI) for the ZX300 in SE and Balanced? I think someone said that it was around 1.6 but it wasn’t for sure.

Thank you! I always had the impression that Opus#1 still have the wider stage compared to most DAPs that I have tried. I had the chance to use the X5ii as well but only for a week and I felt that it was brighter than what I prefer. I hope my ZX300 arrives tomorrow. Can't wait to be impressed by its build and overall premium feel compared to the plastic and bulky Opus#1. More importantly, I hope that its sound will grow on me as I have auditioned it only briefly during local audio meet ups.
