According to this site the % of devices running jellybean is 16.8% which is still quite a lot of devices
So I think we should seesupport for it for some time yet
I doubt it, those devices will start to have more and more issues. If there are enough changes between versions that the code base in newer versions breaks functionality in older versions I strongly doubt anybody would ever bother to work the code to be compatible. The only hope is that you don't need updated versions of aps to get your functionality, IMO.
Point in proof, when XP was no longer supported there were still many, many XP machines out there so companies/developers walking away from an old OS platform has precedent. The question for me where the ZX2 is concerned would be is the sound quality good enough that as simply a music player with possibly in the future no streaming ability, or compromised ability, is it still viable? It would be for me, but not at anywhere near the current retail. Once it gets down to say $500 in the next year, which it should hit then it would be a great buy.
For any of you ZX2 owners on the fence, I would think about selling sooner if at all as the price is going to drop. I know some people think that with the new DAPs non-streaming it will push people to the ZX2, I strongly doubt that will be the case. I'm sure there will be continued and healthy interest, but that is going to fade, there are a lot of very good DAPs these days, and many of them at lower prices so as good as the ZX2 sounds, I can't imagine how it isn't going to go down in value. Again, just my speculation. The life-cycle of technology products is shorter than ever as innovation and new models are rolled out faster so while maybe 6 years ago this wouldn't be true, I do believe that if you're going to sell, do it soon while the price you can ask is best. I could be wrong of course, but these are just some thoughts on the ZX2 moving forward.
