hELLO gUYS:
This is my very first post. I am in Chile by the way.
I was looking on the internet about this headphones, and i did buy both of them waiting for the package to arrive. But...
Can anyone tell me if they are a good pair of cans?.
I do have in my small collection AKG 701, SH HD650, Ety ER4S, Grado GS1000 and RS2 and last but not least BD DT 880.
And... well here comes the question... are this sony good?
Thanks alot

Henry

i owned SA5000 in the past and the sound is pretty cold and normal to me.
Note: I used it with Corda Opera. My phone is original stock

Right now , I have just upgraded my amplifier and really want to try a recabled SA5000 with my new amp.

Anyway, the stock one is not for my taste

SA3000 and SA5000 have same drivers and same housing, same etc.

The differences are pads (leather for SA5000,) cables (arguably SA5000 has better cable, but I don't think this contribute sound quality issue anyway) and cosmetic differences.

Due to leather pads, SA5000 has slightly more powerful bass. But it does not make SA5000 better IMO.

Since I prefer pads of SA3000, I decided to sell SA5000 and got 3000.

Also, since you already have K701, I just don't see why you need SA3000/5000. IMHO K701 is superior in many respects.

Grab Audio Technica, Denon or Kenwood if you want some different sound from German manufactures.

Yes, they are, and will be a great addition to your collection. I own pretty much same phones you do and enjoy them very much. They have some nice qualities you wouldn't find in other phones. Not sure about K701, don't expect much from them, nonetheless K702 is on the way.

Odd. I kept my SA5000 and sold my 701

How much bass difference? Does it make the SA3000's too bright or are both neutral in the treble and mids? Do both go equally low? Or does the SA5000 have a more pronounced extension?

Thanks in advanced if you answer my bombardment of questions.

So everyone loves thrilling phones these days.

Both SA3000 and 5000 are equally bright, if I remember correctly. I really can't tell you how much is different regarding the bass.... I just can't remember precisely.

You know, at least less bass on SA3000 actually makes this more natural than SA5000, which IMO has really strong V shape frequency response. Well, imo SA3000 is superior in extension and clarity..... probably due to the fact that SA5000 uses rather isolating leather pads.

yes and no...i have owned the 3000's and presently own the 5000's and the 5000's did everything the 3000's did but better (however slight)...
plus the construction of the 5000's is magnesium...the 3000's are not...
the sensitivity and response are just a little better on the 5000's...
and the 3000's have a dj style cord input
5000's felt more solid on my head

and then there is upgradeability...with the dj style 3000 its a bigger effort to get a quality recable, which is what i'm contemplating now with the 5000 to cut a little of the shrill and antiseptic quality of the can (i'm debating between the moon audio and a pure sound)

So.... what Sony engineers confirmed is wrong?

You know, I know people usually think more expensive ones are better than cheaper ones... but it is not true at all.

The construction is not a housing; SA3000/5000/010's housings are the harden fiber-like materials embed on the construction of each side. They are same.

Well thanks guys for this but, as far as i am concern i do work with music, I own a studio here in Chile and i think 701 are. Considering I do with BW 800d and ATS ATM 1 fantastic 50... Anyway, the sound in t monitoring he sony's should be different of what I already own, but, then again... some people say that they feel cheap, and others says that they are amazingly build.... Sooo?.
The question is... I already bought them, but, for, let say, portable use like in my computer, office... with a corda 3move.. wich one is the one?... I can't use my 701 or my 880 because they are balance..

Thanks guys...
excellent forum..
