Looks like MDR7550 has less impedance, but sensitivity is the same as EX-1000.  So damping will be less and the power will be double so db/mW will scale.  That's all theoritical based on the specs.  If the specs are indeed accurate.  Power handling 500mW, so it more resistant to drivers blowing than EX-1000 or 600?

Numbers mean little. Well, excluding the numbers representing price.
The 7550 has just three pairs of buds. Unless you can buy a separate chocolate bar (the little strip-box containing the cushions for EX600 and EX1000). Of course you can buy the Hybrids from Sony's Service website but they cost around $10 each! As in per ear! Plus shipping. Also 3rd-party buds will fit, no doubt, but that'll alter the sound you hear, for better or for worse.

EDIT: 16 ohms for EX800ST (7550). Well that does it for me. IEMs of 16 ohm with the D50 will have a DF of one. In this case, it means a lot of bass. FXC80 = Bass heavy. MTPC = Bass monsters.
Also I seriously doubt the whole power handling thing. Come on. Even some home amps outputting 600mW at 16 ohm, you're not gonna listen to that are ya? Of course there are full-sizers clocking in at 3500mW...

I've blown quite a few ibuds.

It happens, but 500mW is indeed alot.  I think my tube amp's max is 200mW.

If you look at the impedance for 800, it only states 16ohm(@what frequency?),  who knows, it may be 32ohm at 1khz like 1000, and 600.  And, 600 and 1000 maybe 16ohms at the same frequency that 800 is at 16ohms.  In that case, specs would be identical except the power handling.  To be entirely sure that they have identical impedance characteristics, you have to look at the whole spectrum.

Considering the similarity between the EX600 and EX1000, I'd be surprised if the EX800's sound signature turned out to be widely different.

Right, interesting how the EX800ST is going to be used in studio's now though, and doesn't share the typical flat FR of the typical Sony and Fostex stuff?
Concerning your ear-tip query, it seems like he's using a Sony Hybrid size S.

Right, I missed the caption - thanks. Now that makes me all the more sceptical about the validity of these graphs for an individual, at least with IEMs like the Sonys that change drastically with different tips and even with different tip placement on the nozzle.

^ Forward projection is less on the EX600, so you feel closer to the stage, albeit with more width. In addition the Sonys create very realistic ambience, which is almost like "being there" for me. The IE8 aren't much worse in this regard, but I'd give a slight nod to the EX600.

The Japanese & European EX1000 & EX600 models come with two cables (1.6m & 0.6m). The American versions only come with one cable (1.2m).

Also, both American versions of the EX1000 & EX600 come with the same EX600 cable (model RK-EX600LP) - yes, the much more expensive EX1000 comes with the thinner EX600 cable! - The European & Japanese EX1000 have the real EX1000 cables (models RK-EX1000LP & RK-EX1000SP), which are thicker but more supple than the EX600 cables (models RK-EX600LP & RK-EX600SP).
