Sad to see you go with reference to selling the SE846. I remember reading your posts on this thread and talking to you when I first started Head-Fi. I hope you enjoy the headphones and hope to see you around.

Thanks moedawg. I always found your posts on the SE846 very helpful and informative

I'm sticking around, looking at k10 tho as a compliment. I am in no rush these 846 for two years now just keep ticking nicely. It's the hunt that's interesting but I keep realizing I'm full still.

I tried going to Angie (chasing the *wow* factor) but was extremely disappointed with angles and shipped them out after a few hrs of listening, very unimpressive and very disappointed, se846 to me are funner and you can change sound with nozzles.

But still... Se846 got to go, not enjoying them as I figured I would, they just aren't *fun* *immersive* *engaging*

Gonna audition some full sized HPs. Hopefully the magic is there

Try out the Sennheiser HD 650. If you are lucky, you can find them cheaply.

I could not agree more. Two and a half years of ownership of the 8s and still completely satisfied. Was tempted with the Black Friday sale on the K10s and Adel A12s but backed away. The hunt is enjoyable but I honestly have no real complaints with the SE846.

In my opinion, you made a great choice.

For those that live in Australia, A2A have the blue version on special at the moment.
$999 AUD which is a killer price, if you are travelling overseas you can also claim back 10% for TRS and that makes it $899 AUD.

OK, thanks. Will try it out.

I find the white a little too bright, & the blue too dull, hopefully the modded blue will hit the sweet spot.

Tried & I like the modded blue the best so far.
Just wondering if anyone has tried taking out just 1 foam (I took 2 pieces of black foam out from each tube) ?  Will that lessen the brightness just a tad ?  I'm kind of afraid to try it 'cos my hands are far from steady.

My blue filters came with one foam each by default. However some other users here also mentioned that they have 2 foams inside. So theoretically you might be on to something. One foam would be brighter than two foams, just that I have no way of confirming it.

Mine also only came with one piece of foam in each filter. Not sure if those that have 2 foams is the same combined length as a single piece.

What is the criteria for DAP not to have hissing issue when pairing with 846 ?

The criteria is to listen for yourself. If you do not hear hiss, you are good to go.

There are certain DAPs that more or less have been known to not have discernible hiss.  For example, the Questyle Audio QP1R does not have discernible hiss when coupled with the SE846 to my and other's ears (I have not heard otherwise as of this post).

I'm sticking with the Shure SE846 because it sounds good enough for me. The purpose of the Shure SE846 was to have full sized headphone sound in IEM form and was musical like a HD 650 or LCD-2. I have reference speakers and headphones so I wanted something different.

Can't let my 846s go completely either.  I've had the KSE1500s for two weeks and feel they're much cleaner than the 846; I'm able to pick out and concentrate on individual instruments more in much of my music.  That said, as a two year owner of the 846s, I had two new pair on hand and was going to sell both. I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm keeping one pair with custom silver/gold Plussounds because they're much less cumbersome than carrying the extra dac/amp. and still great sounding iems. I'll switch back and forth between the two.
