How is the soundstage and imaging in comparison to the HD 600 and the Shure SRH 1840? And with black filter (i believe it makes the Shure SE846 sound more neutral based on frequency graphs).... how neutral does the Shure SE846 sound in comparison to the HD 600 and Shure SRH 1840?

I think we covered this IEM vs fullsize open back thing a couple times already.

The simple answer is No they don't compare. Really this is not a knock on the se846 but rather a case of apple to banana comparison. SE846 even on black filter has more bass boost than hd600.

Have been using SE530 for 5 years and am contemplating upgrading to SE846. Money is not really an issue.
 
I love the warmth of the vocals (especially Adele and Alicia Keys) on the SE530, which I run from an iphone 5 (lifestyle restricts portable amp usage). I do find the SE530s fit very well, but the bass is definitely lacking. By default, I find the mids incredibly personal, and on the treble it's not fatiguing. 
 
When I used Accudio app in "Hifi-Flat" mode, I believe it raises the volume of the often criticised tenor roll off, but I actually find it fatiguing and shrill to the ears. I guess I like the sound signature of the SE530s.
 
For those who own SE846:
1) are they a qualitative and substantial upgrade to the SE530s (besides bass)?
2) do they still fit comfortably despite being bigger?
3) what is the treble extension like and do you find it shrill?
4) are the cables materially different from those of SE530 stock cables?
5) this memory over the ear part - is it a big improvement over the SE530s which have standard wire over the ear?

I never had the 530's, but I did use my SE425's quite a bit.  Here is what I can offer you:
 
1. No idea, but a large improvement to the SE425's
2. The fit comfortably for me, I would guess the 425s and 530's are pretty close to the same size.  I don't really even notice the 846's are larger.
3. I find the treble to extend better, and it is much more smooth than the 425.  It has a solid presence, but is not fatiguing to me at all.
4. Yes, the cables are quite different.  I actually prefer the 425's cables (which I think are the same as the 530/535's) to the 846's stock.  I have since upgraded to a Forza hybrid cable.
5.  Again, I think I liked the memory wire on the 425's better.

Having previously owned the SE535-J, my answer to your questions are as follows:

1. Yes, the 846 took what was a great midrange and polite treble and added a visceral bass. The way I describe the 535 now is a beautiful house without a basement. The 846 added the basement. Further, the clarity, instrument separation and balance were all improved. Finally, with the replaceable filters you can turn the sonic signature to your tastes.

2. I agree with Revolutionz, even though they are larger and heavier than the 535, the 846 is actually more comfortable. It must be the overall shape or weight distribution.

3. The treble is about the same as the 535-J which has the extended treble but it is very polite and not fatiguing.

4. I cannot comment on the stock cables as I think I listened to them for about 30 minutes before switching to an OCC silver cable from Headphone Lounge that I used on my 535.

5. Same as #4 above.

One word of caution I agree with is from Arnaud on the other SE846 thread http://www.head-fi.org/t/663180/shure-se846-a-new-in-ear-flagship-from-shure-finally-impressions-p26-28/2175#post_9834325. With an input impedance of 9ohm, the choice of DAP, DAC and/or amplifier can be important.

I would agree with this.  The sound coming straight out of my F series is noticeably different than running LOD > Shadow amp.  In another month or so, I will have a CEntrance DACmini with the 1ohm mod to try out my laptop too.  Curious to see the sound sig difference out of a different DAC/Amp.  I think if your headphone out of an amp is greater than 1ohm, its going to add some odd coloration to the fairly even-keel sound of the 846.

Compare 535 I would say yes.  It is a major improvement.  The question, though, is if se846 would give you the most enjoyment at its price sine there are a lot of other choices in universal IEMs or custom IEMs that you may or may not like more....
