OH ok, nevermind then.

I believe I saw a pair of these on etsy... might try to pick them up.

A couple weeks ago I was rummaging through some drawers in my house and completely out of the blue I happened upon two pairs of old headphones. Sony DR-25 and Realistic Nova 40.

Those are almost as hideous as the LCD-1

But when you put the LCD-1 on, close your eyes, and it basically disappears, being very light, surrounding you with that light airy sound, like you were there, you forgive the ugly duckling look, no? I sure do.

Just received my SE-500s. They're in better shape than the listing pictures suggested, but they still need some work. I'll post the before picture now, and the after picture later. I'll also link to the restoration worklog later.

I said nothing about the sound or the wearing comfort. I just stated they are ugly as all sin.

I'd have to disagree, I love the look of the LCD-1. Then again, I've never seen them on someone's head, and obviously not in person.

II just think they look like some one murdered the design team halfway though production and they had to slap a few other parts from different headphones on it to hold it together.

The first ('prototype') LCDs are interesting because aesthetically they have little prestige value compared to the final cup design that Audeze came up with. And regardless of the technology inside them, the LCD-3 would be rendered quite ridiculous if they came with a frame like that - even if it were an acoustic equivalent of the more prestigious frame.

And that's interesting because in vintage audio, you're often faced with the problem of low prestige but great sound.

Oh, and, fun fact: The LCD-1 used a different headphone's casing. I don't remember which but it was OEM'd from someone else. Could explain the abnormal design.

There's a picture floating around somewhere of those headphones where the Audeze logo on the side has been replaced by another logo; presumably that of (one of) the original brand(s).
