The Elrog rec was dwarfing the KR 2a3 tubes. swapped in the EML 300b 2.5v tubes and suddenly the Elrog doesn't seem all that big a tube anymore.

The 2022 Utopia and Cardas Clear cable + WA33 and this tube combo sound sublime. i believe it is well run-in, and the Elrog is now being used more often than my Tak274b rec. very much enjoying the clarity, space and air the Elrog 5u4g rec brings to the table. it evens out the sound of the 300b 2.5v tubes.

Really love how the amp looks in the lounge. always a conversation starter when non-audio friends drop by the house. "why are there so many light bulbs on your stereo system?"

Does this count as a headphone listening station? upside of having a 3m length cable..:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
I guess the performance will be bog standard :L3000:

Tube rolling is so passe'. Amp rolling is where it's at. 🤣
As a longtime, treatment-resistant amp 'ho, I couldn't agree more.

For me, a "normal" listening session (quotes indicate abnormalcy) involve hearing the headphone du jour on at least 2 or 3 different amps, often on different DACs.

Tube rolling has been fun and provided incremental gains for years, but I never tasted true transparency until I converted to a tube keyboard.🥸

HA!

FYI, I'm also a keyboard & switch 'ho (now, there's a really sad & crazy group!), so this is pretty amusing

See, and that sounds like fun to me. I don't get the stigma some people have against "listening to your gear". Like it's not ok to be an audio gearhead?

Love “sad & crazy”; let’s call it “happy & crazy” and preserve our “dignity”!

It's so much fun.

What you say is true. Often it's really not OK to be an audio gearhead:
  • It's considered normal to be a fanatic about stuff others are familiar with, maybe also fanatic about themselves (cars, motorcycles, tools, lawncare equipment, whatever)
  • But when you're a fanatic about stuff most people aren't familiar with (audio in general; headphone audio in particular), they tend to look at you as a cross between a hoarder and a disheveled public crazy person in need of intervention.
    • and video...being fanatic about video gear is something nobody understands
(trying not to be autobiographical here, especially the "disheveled public crazy person" part)
