Audiophile thoughts run through my head. Nobody should be able to run anything but new production tubes in this thing. Legally.
One day the NOS will run out! I don't care if the Mullards provide a warmer glow, it's not allowed!
Speaking of which. Post of the devil and the uh... Devil Postman will appear. These just arrived. National Gold Line 6dj8's. Made in the USSR, so... 6n23p's? Gotta decipher the code: 9031.
Roll em into the BA3 now.

These are fantastic. Ripping bass and treble and detail. Loud and hitty and textured. Monster bass.
There's only one thing wrong: that treble will highlight sibilance. This is the first time I've heard something distracting/a little piercing come out of the Beyer DT 880 600 ohm. It really isn't pleasant. Need to weigh things up. I may just listen around it, I like these so much.
If an album is too sibilant, I'll just listen to it on different headphones. Although that sibilance comes through a little on the k240 DF's now as well
And, maybe with a little more break-in things will smooth out a bit. We'll see.
I love both on the Woo WA3 and on the LTA MZ3. Overall, my preference is for 660S2. It has more extended frequency range and more tiered soundstage. The 6XX, while improved greatly by the Custom Cans UK mods, is still ‘warm’. This, to me, isn’t bad: it works well on ‘thinner’ recordings. In terms of tonal comparison, 660S2 versus 6XX reminds me of ZMF Eikon versus ZMF Atticus. .
