I never knew it was possible to spend so much money on HP's and associated products. My love is my main Hifi so I keep my HP collection fiscally (and quantitative) small. Impressive collections here.
Probably, tubes are the worst of all black holes for audio-related money due to the value-density proposition.I never knew it was possible to spend so much money on HP's and associated products. To be fair, if they weren't filled with vacuum the density would increase.Probably, tubes are the worst of all black holes for audio-related money due to the value-density proposition.
And potentially the most rewarding as well, when it comes to sound. Also, a lot depends on the tube's type. Not all of them cost hundreds of £$¥€. On the other hand you are right. It is probably one of the deepest circles of audio hell. Or the highest heavens. Depends on how you look at it.Probably, tubes are the worst of all black holes for audio-related money due to the value-density proposition.
I've only tube-rolled 4 times (on 2 different amps), but heard distinct sonic changes, a couple bad and a couple very good, each time. For the sake of transparency, on the off-chance that someone out there on the internet is reading these posts, has an SQ5, and thinks, "That sounds like a good idea," let me say this: it probably isn't. It was a novelty at first, but the overwhelming smoothness is too much. The music loses all definition and impact. Snares sound like someone tapping a bongo.
So I got the big magnifying glass and had a close inspection of the LM4562's I pulled out, did some research, and found they were genuine. So they went back in. I achieved nothing. Which has generally been my experience with op amp rolling. At least the 2134 in the center position is new now, not something I salvaged from another piece of equipment.
Still have the itch to find a workable alternative to the LM4562's.
Wow! The canny phrase-maker strikes again...value-density proposition
** For Bangybang et al, maximise selling price as the density of the purchaser rises …. .Probably, tubes are the worst of all black holes for audio-related money due to the **value-density proposition**
All that's missing is a "headphone tree""The Black Lodge" is done, I think.
