I was thinking wow, he really organized his setup nicely recently. Then I remembered he said he was out for a week and when he got back his wife had a big smile on her face. At first, he thought she was glad to see him. Then he saw his gear
'Default Stack' adjustment complete. Rolled the OPA2134's in there, and as expected everything has become super listenable. It's a bit of a shock to the system, honestly, after having the refined, crisp, classy power of the DacMagic 100 in there for so long. But it suits the tubes and headphones in the chain a little better.
For the sake of transparency, on the off-chance that someone out there on the internet is reading these posts, has an SQ5, and thinks, "That sounds like a good idea," let me say this: it probably isn't. It was a novelty at first, but the overwhelming smoothness is too much. The music loses all definition and impact. Snares sound like someone tapping a bongo.
So I got the big magnifying glass and had a close inspection of the LM4562's I pulled out, did some research, and found they were genuine. So they went back in. I achieved nothing. Which has generally been my experience with op amp rolling. At least the 2134 in the center position is new now, not something I salvaged from another piece of equipment.
Still have the itch to find a workable alternative to the LM4562's.
