Are you aware that on Head-Fi you get a free HD600 for spelling 'complement' correctly? Needless to say not many have won.

Compliment => polite expression of praise or admiration
Complement => something that completes or goes well with something

The two often get mixed up

Wondering if you guys can help me.
Bought the HD600 awhile ago, but didn't have an amp for it & it sounded HORRIBLE without one. Literally so little sound coming from it & what cam out was muffled.

Bought a Schiit Asgard 2 amp finally & the headphones now sounds like a $300 headphone, BUT the HD600 gives me maybe slightly more than half of the sound my Philips Fildelio X1 & Audio-Technica ATH M50 give out on that amp.

For some songs, I have to crank the knob to max to get it where I want, while switching to the X1, my ears nearly explode from that volume level.

Is that normal? Is that because of the higher impedance of the HD600 (300ohms vs the X1's 32ohms)

Do I need a more powerful amp to full get the most out of the HD600?

Yes, this is normal. Generally, higher impedance requires more juice to get to the same volume level, though headphone sensitivity plays a part in that, too. The Asgard 2 is a great amp for the HD600. Some people like to explore tube amps for it (and the HD650), but they are by no means required. Rest assured that this amp is driving them properly. The only reason to get another amp is if you remain unsatisfied with the sound of your current setup.

Thought as much. So a higher impedance headphone will always sound not as loud as a lower one on an amp?
So what exactly is the advantage of a higher ohms?

Not necessarily. I have a 250 ohm Beyer DT990, and it is slightly less loud than the HD600 at the exact same volume position on the Asgard. Sensitivity comes into play, too.

It used to be that higher impedance headphones were known for having better sound quality. I don't think that's as true anymore.

Strange thing is that the HD600 isn't really a hard load to drive.  What is the rest of your set-up?  What is your source - ie source > Asgard2> HD600?

OK - just found out you'e going from PC (straight from the MOBO rear ports) to Asgard to HD600 (read one of your previous posts)

Turn your Windows volume up.

I've been considering getting a missus. Never thought about a blow-up doll. Makes good sense, though.
