REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else

Not so fast partner. Most people do not agree. Some do. Some don't. I have heard both the W3 and the IE8 and I prefer the IE8. I would agree about this though, that both the W3 and the IE8 are at the pinnacle of IEM engineering at the moment. I have never heard the SE530 but I am very open to the idea that even though that this universal IEM is a few years old by now, it might be bundled up with the "best of the best". The SE530 has certainly earned its place in the Hall of Fame of IEM's.

Agree. I hear a lot of good things about the Senns IE8 and almost bought them but I rather have the isolation and detail. I am sure I will be very impressed when I hear the IE8's. Now I want them both!

X2 other than this days I'm getting tired of the SE530. Might be putting them at the FS forum.

The SE530 is very... different. They don't do what some of the other top-tier IEMs do which is drop the mids slightly. They actually accentuate the mids and soften the highs. This gives a very laid back, non-fatiguing, smooth presentation. I feel the reason the new IEMs are seen as better compared to the SE530 is because they have more of a "WOW" factor. And especially when comparing these new IEMs to it back-to-back, the SE530 simply doesn't have this attribute. But as always, it's all personal preference.

I had them both. Sold the IE8s. W3s, if you can listen without sibilance (which I can using the modded tri-flange tips), are the better performer.

I would agree that the SE530, W3 and IE8 earphones are at the top of the class, but I've never been a fan of the Sennheiser sound. I much prefer North American cans and their sound.

I would say that the W3's are slightly ahead of the other 2.
