[REVIEW] Head-Direct RE0 - a new contender for the best IEM
Apr 13, 2010 at 8:48 PM Post #1,456 of 2,011
^ The PL50 will not isolate more than the RE0. It's a fairly shallow-insertion IEM and the attenuation is average at best. ER6i and iM616 (never owned a 716) isolate a lot more.

^ that's ridiculous. etymotic iem's are probably the most isolating iem's out there. there is no chance the er6i isolates less than a re0. i would say that's not a proper fit of the er6i.

The RE0s isolate reasonably well with the small bi flange tips.
I use them in the plane and they dont isolate as well as my x5s but they isolate well enough with the bi flanges (not the single flange).
I actually prefer to hear a little of whats going on in the outside world.

I wear them driving too.
The x5s when driving are pretty freaky (like having your head in the cone of silence)

The RE0s allow me to hear a little of whats going on and also talk to people while they are in (oh and still enjoy the music).

There are other various places around the world but why not buy them directly from Head-Direct?
The price is the cheapest I've found them anywhere. I see no reason to buy them any where else.

Yes, head-direct appears to be the only and thus cheapest place. From order to arrival in Europe was only 5 days or so. The come in a relatively flat, padded enveloped with pro-forma invoice attached outside (!) saying "gift".

I bought a PK1 from a Hong Kong based seller through that auction site and slightly cheaper than from head-direct. Unfortunately it was intercepted by customs and I had to drive to their office to pay 19% VAT on it, then making it more expensive. And delivery took 3 weeks. So make your choice. Of course the value of my (and the custom officers') time exceeded the tax I paid.

Darn it, just broke in the RE0's and the connection to the plug is loose for the left channel. Need to send them in...still under 30 days.

I'm interested in picking up a pair, but the build quality concerns me. Has anyone else had a pair go bad? If so, how long have you had them? I'm pretty careful with my stuff, but there's only so much I can account for.

There are 98 pages in this thread now, trust me that you WILL find those that break their RE0 in the first week, and those like me who have had the first version (which said to be the worst out of the three version) for over two years in active use yet till going strong.
